miscarage at 40??

last period, 7wks, but i believe conception was just 3wks ago. last week had a blood test and progesterone was only 4.4, hcb 1240. no bleeding.today had u.sound and showed the gestational sac but no fetus. told that size is of a 4-5 week pregnancy. scared to take progesterone due to birth defects at my age, it's very hard to wait another week for another u/sound. any chances??please help!!!

Yes, it is hard to wait, but only time will tell what will become of this early pregnancy.  The progesterone level is concerning (and supplementation has never been shown to be clearly beneficial in these circumstance), so I understand you fears.  Try to stay encouraged.

today i had an u.sound that showed the sac of 5.3 weeks, no fetus. the blood test came back prog is 10.8 and hcb is 18.000.- doctor thinks that such high hcb should show a fetus already. wants another u/sound in one week and if no fetus, d/c. continues to think that at my age i should not play w/ progesterone in case it's not a good preg. on the other hand says all could be ok.. i am going out of my mind. any ideas??? and at 6.3 weeks having these hormones numbers could it still be too early to see the fetus?
