should polyps be removed from uterus

should polyps be removed from uterus

i was diagnosed with being anemic, my blood level was 9.7.  I mentioned this to my ob-gyn and told her my menstrual cycle was very heavy(super plus tampon and pad changing every 45 min to an hour first day of cycle).  I had a pelvic ultra and vaginal ultra sound done, the test showed i had 2 fibroids and a cyst on my left ovary as well as a cyst on my cervix.  The Dr said the fibroids were not in an area to cause the bleeding.  She never mentioned the cyst to me, i got a copy of the report from the facility and learned of it after reading the report.  I then had a Endometrial biopsy done and it showed no pre-cancer or cancer but did say i had polyps.  The Dr wants to put me on Hormone Replacement Therapy which i do not want to take because i read it is very risky.  Should i have these polyps removed?  I am so tired from being anemic, i need some relief soon.  I have been feeling like this for months.

Hi!
If you were my patient, I would offer you a d&c hysteroscopy/endometrial ablation as the next management step.  I believe that polyps should be removed, because they can contain little foci of pre-cancer or even cancer.  OR if untreated can become cancerous.
Polyps often develop due to an imbalance of hormones -- especially too much estrogen and too little progesterone.  Your doctor may be wanting you to take progesterone to adjust the balance, and this is not a bad idea at all, as it may help to prevent new polyps from developing.
An endometrial ablation might be quite helpful if your biopy results don't show any reason to do one. The advantage would be that it migth reduce blood loss with your period each month.  Alternatively, a hysterectomy might be pretty tempting.
Good luck to you!
