vaginal bleeding during/after urination

I am  post menopausal and have had a sharp pain when urinating for the past few days. Then this morning there was very red blood on the tissue after urinating. I also believe there was some blood mixed with the urine. ???  Pua

If you were my patient, I would recommend a few things -- one is a urinalysis to check for an infection in the bladder.  The other (if the urinalysis is negative) would be an ultrasound of the uterus to check the thickness of the lining.  If the bleeding is coming from the uterus and the lining appears thickened, then a biopsy would be the next step.  In the vast majority of cases this does NOT turn out to be cancer, but should be evaluated.
