Is this just a really bad yeast infection?

I had a bad sinus infection for a few weeks and the doctor prescribed me Augmentin 875 mg 2x/day for 10 days and pseudovent.  I asked her for a prescription for Diflucan since antibiotics normally cause me to get a yeast infection.  About 6 days into the antibiotics my clitoris felt very sore.  Anytime my pants pressed against it, it was painful.  Never had this before, checked the area and it looked normal except a little redness.  A few days later the clitoral pain goes away but now I have a little itchiness but whole vulva area is vey sore and red.  For me this is not typical of a yeast infection.  I had no abnormal discharge and only slight itching.  But I took the diflucan anyway.  At this time I also experienced my first hemorrhoid.  I believe this is from the Augmentin giving me diarrhea the whole time I was on it.  It did not hurt when I urinated only when I wiped, it burned and felt sore and swollen.  I only have one partner whom I've been with for three years so I doubt this is anything STD related.  I also used to get BV and yeast infections chronically and this is unlike anything I have had before.  It has been about 3 days since I took the Diflucan and feel a little relief but not back to normal.  I normally feel better the next day after the diflucan.  Does this sounds like typical yeast or do you think I could have a different infection?  I'm positive it's not BV.  Can you get other fungal infections from antibiotics?  Any help is appreciated.

I also forgot to add that I am on the Nuva ring.  I use it continously for 3 months and then take it for one week.  I do this because I get migraines during the withdrawl period.  I just put my second ring in right before the vulva soreness began.  During this time everytime I wiped I was spotting.  I usually don't spot on the ring.

hello  you may want to take the ring out right now. I had nearly the same problem i to was on the ring as you were,Dr said that it was only a yeast infection from the antibiotics gave me stuff for it but it was about three maybe four days later that the symt did not match what was normal for me when i had a yeast infection i to was red and sore started wondering, went to see family Dr, she said to take the ring out but was not able to do so she had to as i was well swollen not plesen  as it turned out i was having a reaction to the ring if you search the web you will find that the ring has alot more side affects than we are told mine was minor as my dr says here views not mine but read what could happen and well i guess i got off lucky  hope this is of some help but take the ring  out and see your Dr if its not a reaction then you may need to use something else for a lil while but if it is a reaction you may be lucky like i was and only have a mild one instead of some of the other thing that can happen while you are on the ring hope this helps take care and good luck

i had the joy (YEAH RIGHT)of getting my first yeast infection last year after getting a prescription from my doctor for a bronchitis..
I can tell you that 2 days after taking the medication i was getting the same symptoms..
after i called the pharmacist to asy if these were NORMAL side effect to the medication he told me yes but that it was early to have yeast infection symptom.. TRUST ME I WENT TO SEE THE DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE I COULD NOT STAND THE SYMPTOMS!!!! she then told me it was yeast infection and i was given diflucan just like you
( a miracle drug).... i was worried that it was bv also...

Hello. I am one of those women who are susceptible to yeast infections. It seems like I get one every other month. I usually get them right before my period. They are not horrible but they are enough for me to know they are there. I don't believe it is BV because there is no odor and the color is white. Has anybody else experienced this?

I'm not really sure what a BV is but... I am a human petri dish as my husband jokes. And, a few years ago I came down with what I "thought" was a yeast infection. It hurt when I wore jeans, the pain came and went and then it stayed. But the redness really actually never left. I kept going back and forth from my primary care dr and my gyn. I was relentless, but who wouldn't? To make a long story short. I had somehow had an allergic reaction to prescription internal yeast medication. I have sensitive skin, who'd a thunk that I'd have it down there too?! Well I did. My gyn sent me to a specialist in DC who diagnosed me with vulvar vesibulitis. I ended up having an over abundance of nerve endings grow. I'm not trying to scare you. But if is not a typical yeast infection and it is not going away. Get on the bandwagon with your dr. I was unable to be intimate with my husband for months.

I Suffered from a yeast infection for 7 years! I was so raw I bled. I'd get up at night & soak in a scalding bath to get relief. Again & again I given the prescriptions of the day, even gentian violet, an old remidy. Nothing helped.
And Hey if it didn't work the first time, why have me use it twice as long, to really prove it doesn't work?

Anyway I finally came up with my own solution....Massive doses of  acidophalis from the health food store & lots of yogurt. The active cultures attack the yeast & balance out my system. It works great. I also believe Dyflucan is majic, but to prevent, & treat on your own without a trip to the doc for a prescription yogurt & acidipholis is the way to go, certainly can't hurt.

PLEASE HELP ME!

I am 15. In fourth grade, I remember my vaginal area started to itch. It itched every single night pretty much until the present. I only told my mother about this problem last year. We went to go see a gynecologist and she put me on a medication, I forget what it was called but I think it's the miracle drug the other women were talking about. It worked for four days, then my yeast infection came back. Please help me with this problem, I am begging you, it makes my life extremely ... uncomfortable every single night. I am a virgin and don't plan to be sexually active for a long time. I also absolutely hate the texture of yogurt.

Please help me.

Dear all, especially reddress high-heels. Here's a few tips from someone who has had tons of yeast infections and a condition called vulva vestibulitis. First the yeast/yogurt thing: many docs will say yogurt doesn't help w/ candidiasis (yeast). I took acidopholus out of desperation and have not had one since. I can't say it actually cured any of mine when they were in full infection mode.  I needed the Diflucan(miracle drug). BUT, after the last one, I started taking some every day as a preventive measure, and haven't had a single yeast infection since, even when on antibiotics! Also, I feel improvement w/ stomach cramps, digestion, etc when I started this. Incidentally, my floppy earred dog got yeast infections in her ears after every bath or swim, and the vet told us to start feeding her plain yogurt daily. Not another infection since, and she also had a ton of them up until that point.

Red-dress--you can get acidopholus pills at any health-food store, or powdered kind that you just add to food so you don't have to eat yogurt since you don't like it. :O)

Now for the VV, itching, burning, etc. It is nearly unbearable and I really feel for anyone that has it. Here's some symptoms for you that might think you have this or be at wits end w/ diagnosis delays, and some advice. My gyn finally diagnosed it after I'd gone to family docs for a few years, where the docs would say, "well, your yeast infection is cleared up, don't know what to tell you." It would burn so much and painful intercourse. Itching like bugs crawling under the lips, just AWFUL. Finally went to gyno. She verified no infections, took a swab and barely touched it in some places which sent me through the roof. She said it was vulva vestibulitis, in which sufferer either have more nerve endings there (lucky for us when we're not in a flarup) or normal amt of endings but after several rounds of infections the nerves are just really overreacting and the pain/itching response won't settle back down. They just start firing and won't stop until you break the pain cycle. The "good" news is that this is usually self-limiting where it won't go longer than 6 months! But you can have a break for a couple weeks and then have another 6 months flareup, yey! :O( Never fear though, you can have your nerve endings surgically removed if it gets too bad (not kidding!). OK, now for the truly good news, no sarcasm this time. My gyno prescribed a lidocaine jelly which has saved my life, sex life, sanity, and money running to the fam doc to do a culture e/o month for what is not an infection but inflammation instead. It has topical anesthetic in it and it numbs the painful areas. Just a little dab will do and you can still feel if you need to urinate or have clitoral sensation, etc...it just numbs the lips or vaginal opening where most VV is...Also, intially hydrocortisone cream can help the skin heal if it's just raw from an infection (won't treat the yeast or bacteria though, just helps the skin heal after the infection is treated w/ proper meds).

Sorry for the novel, but after I found acidopholus in a non-yogurt product and the lidocaine jelly for VV, I made it my mission in life (haha) to get the word out to any who have these probs that there are some solutions for them to ease their pain. It's embarrassing to talk about, especially when you're a clean freak like me and infections are often thought of by some as for people that don't keep "down there" clean, which isn't true. That's why forums like these are nice. Good luck all.

Wow I don't even think I have to post mine I think I got my answer but I will anyway. I recently had a baby in Feb started the Evra birth control patch the first week of April got a urinary trac infection the first week on the patch they gave me a medication for three days to clear it up. So now I've been on my period since the first of April roughly and I'm so itchy and sore and yes it hurts so much to wipe!! So I took my birth control patch off thinking that maybe it's a reaction to that.
