does yeast infections cause vaginal dryness?

by Samb20, Oct 28, 2009 12:02PM
I had a yeast infection about 2 weeks ago. I took care of it with monistat cream for 7 days and it looked like it went away. But now I'm not sure if it gone or not. Is it possible for me to give my partner a yeast infection from unprotected sex? And how do I know if I still have a yeast infection? I am unsure. Also when I  have sex with my partner the sex is kind of painful but its not to bad. But during the sex I begin to get dry. Lubrication seems to work but is there something else I can do? Please help. Thank you.

Hi!
Yes, I have seen yeast transmitted to the male partner.  He usually ends up with a rash--commonly known as "jock itch".  It can be passed back and forth too.  I personally like to treat my patients with diflucan, as it seems to work better and there is no risk of a reaction to the carrier ( the cream the monistat is mixed in).  Sometimes people get a reaction to the cream that is almost as bad or worse than the original yeast.
You can also try pro-biotics and live culture yogurt to re-populate your "good" bacteria--they help fight the yeast.
If you continue to have symptoms, see your doctor about diflucan!
Good luck!'
