25 days

Hi Doctor

I have had a HIV rapid duo test at 25 days (finger test) after having protected sex and unprotected oral on me on the 21st feb and having unprotected oral on the 28th feb from a girl . neg result.

My question is

1.do i need to test again at 28+ days from both incidents.

As far i know the condoms stayed on as i remember seeing siemen at end.

I have tested for other stds which was neg.

I now have a girlfriend and before we have unprotected sex i want to make sure im ok.

Thanks

Hello again,

You are correct to think that all is now well - you definitely do not need to test again for HIV. The accuracy of the test will be greater than 99.89% at 28 days OR MORE.

In any event as I've said before, the protected vaginal sex is of no consequence since there was no exposure, it is likely also taht your partner was not HIV positive. In addition, the oral episode where you were sucked without a condom is not a risk for HIV.

And to Mr Halfoldman, the HIV DUO test as used in the UK etc looks for antibodies to HIV 1 and 2 and also p24 to HIV 1. HIV 1 - is the hugely dominant form globally EVEN IN areas where HIV 2 is prevalent such as the Gabon. The DUO test will reliably and accurately detect all major subtypes including subtype o.

Good Morning,

No you do not need to test again for HIV.

You used a condom for penetrative sex which would give you excellent protection since the condom remained intact. It is unlikely in any event that the girl in question was HIV positive.

Unprotected oral - being sucked - poses no risk at all.

You have done the responsible thing and had a combined antibody / antigen test - admittedly a little early in strict terms but actually these tests outperform their stated time intervals usually. In addition, you have also been responsible and had other STD tests which were negative.

I think you have done all the right things and you will not be HIV positive from these events.
