Anxious about HIV Infection

Anxious about HIV Infection

Hello Dr.  I had protected oral and vaginal intercourse with a CSW (HIV status unknown) in Mexico 2 weeks ago.  It was twice in the same night, and both times we used a latex condom.  She performed oral on me with the condom on and then vaginal intercourse with same condom.  Condom was disposed and no tears or malfunction.  About 30 minutes later, she used her hands on my penis to make it erect and then put on another condom and performed oral and vaginal intercourse.  Condom was disposed and no tears or malfunction to the best of my knowledge.  She then slept next to me in the bed until the morning and left.  I have become extremely anxious this week since I had some dizzyness and fatigue episodes.  My questions are:  What are my chances of having contracted HIV or any other STD from this activity?  When should I get tested for STDs?  Do you think I could be infected?  I am going to go get tested this week (approximately 2-1/2 weeks after the activity).  I have ceased intercourse with my wife since this activity, and am feeling extremely guilty and nervous about STDs and HIV.  I have learned my lesson never to engage in such activity ever again.  Please advise and help with your comments and suggestions.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your contribution to our forum.
Your sexual encounter was completely safe as a condom was used both for penetrative and oral intercourse.  Therefore no risk of any STI, and definitely no risk at all of HIV infection.  Bearing all this in mid, you do not need to be tested.  I believe that all your symptoms are related to all your anxiety and guilt.
However if you want to be tested to help you with your anxiety, you could be tested anytime from now for most STDs, except for HIV, Syphilis and Hep B; you would need to wait at least 4 weeks.  In any case, as mentioned before, there is no need for this.
Best wishes,
Dr Jose

Hello Dr.  My 32 days STD panel tests, including HIV were all negative.  Do I need to re-test at the 8 week mark?  Or are these results solid enough to put all this behind me?

Hello

You most certainly do not need to do anything else or have any further tests.

Your sexual activity was completely safe. You do not need to have any further tests. You are absolutely fine.

best wishes, Sean

Would you consider high risk ? i had protected sex with a sex worker in july, both oral and vaginal sex that lasted about 6-10 min, i didnt kno the females status and being drunk as i was i didnt bother to ask. now here comes the catch ..... i had tiny sores around the groin area from shaving 2 days prior, but during sex i noticed that the sex worker was quite dry down there (not wet enough ) what would be the risk of contracting hiv on a scale of 1-10 ? plz any1 am freaking out

Hello Dr.  Fyi, the HIV test was a rapid antibody test.  Is this conclusive at a 4 week mark?

I also was in the same situation, I am still wondering if I should re-test at 8 weeks? It was a rapid test that I used so I am still uncertain it was neg at 32 days. If you have any more info djambori please let me know.
