A related discussion,
hiv risk from saliva in the eye was started.
Thanks doc appreciate all the help!
Hi Trini
You will not become HIV positive through getting saliva in your eye, unless Dracula was spitting at you after a midnight feast. The difference between potential and reality is great. All sorts of things have theoretical potential for harm but in actuality are no risk.
Best wishes, Sean
So isn't the the bloody saliva question a valid one? Because a few websites said
saliva is potentially dangerous if it has blood it?
Thats a bit of a quantum leap from what I said!
Saliva does have a negative effect on the virus but that isn't the point. The point is that the amount of active virus in saliva is irrelevant and whilst we are able to identify it it is not a successful transfer route.
Ok thanks a million. So saliva kills the virus?
Morning Trini11
There is no risk at all of you contracting HIV from saliva even if it did get into your eye.
There are no recorded or documented cases of this worldwide - it doesnt happen and there is no risk.
Please don't come back with "what if there were tiny invisible specks of blood in the saliva". There is NO risk at all from saliva in the eye.
best regards, Sean
