One more question about testing and symptoms

One more question about testing and symptoms

Dear Dr. Cummings or Dr. Jose,

I just have one more questions that I would like to see if I could get answered.  As I posted earlier, I french kissed a girl that I didnt know her health or condition and my gums were bleeding.  I have had flu like symptoms, nausea all the time, lack of energy and fatigue after I exert myself.  I had an hiv test at 8 weeks that was negative and 8 week pcr/rna test that was "hiv-1 not detected".  I had still been feeling this way and still feel week.  I had another hiv test at 11 weeks that was non-reactive.

Question, could I have not serconversed yet?  Is it likely that the tests are false negatives?  Do I need to retest in another week or two to be sure and is it okay to have unprotected sex with my wife now?  I am realy worried because I am still felling so weak and sick.  I had a 1100 blood work test and everything came back normal.  I have been on Levaquin 750mg for a week now because of a sinus infection, my left lympnode on my neck is kind of swollen.   I know you cant speculate on other illnesses, but what else could it be  its been almost 3 months since I kissed her, could it be mono?  Wouldnt I have a really sore throat?

I am really worried.  Please answer my quesions and not to be rude, but could you be very specific in your response?  Thank you ever so much for the great support that you provide to everyone!

Hello,
You are definitely negative.  And I say this for a number of reasons:  you do not contract HIV by kissing, even if you have bleeding gums (you would actually be theoretically the source of infection and not the other way around); you have had enough negative conclusive tests to reach this conclusion; if your non-specific symptoms are related to HIV sero-conversion, the tests would have been positive.  You would have sero-converted by now, and in the unlikely situation that you hadn't, the virus would have been detected in large numbers in the PCR test, as well as you would have had serious abnormalities in the full battery of blood tests that you had, and they would have not been normal.
The lymph nodes were swollen because you had a sinus infection.  This always happens with infections.
Therefore you need to definitely forget about HIV.
There are millions of viruses and it could be one of them.  It could certainly be infectious mononucleosis.  Have you been tested for this?  It does not always manifest itself with a sore throat.  Also if you have had a sinus infection for a long time, you can certainly experience all of these symptoms.  If this is the case, you might want to consult an ENT specialist.
Have you also thought about the possibility of psycho-somatic symptoms due to the stress and anxiety of thinking that it was HIV?
I think I have been as specific as I can be.  If you continue worrying, you need to discuss all of thi with your doctor.
Best wishes,
Dr Jose
