Possible HIV exposure ans symptoms

Dear Doctor,

I have currently been feeling depressed in General and during a visit to China i thought that using the services of call girls would make me feel better. However naturally now i am much more worried and anxious of the fact that i may have contracted HIV.

I had 4 total encounters in which two i had unprotected oral and protected vaginal sex and 2 had only unprotected oral sex. This all happened within a week. And i must also add that i have HSV 2 even though i did not appear to have an outbreak at the time.

About 2 weeks after the encounters i came down with flu like symptoms including swollen lymph nodes, mild sore throat, blocked nose, headaches, fatigue, strong back and neck pains, very mild fever (37.5). (No diarrhea or rash)

Now which is 10 days after my symptoms appeared i still feel some pain and a lot of pressure in and around my ears, armpits, neck and groin area which is probably my lymph nodes even though i cant feel anything enlarged (a feeling i have never experienced in my life). i also feel more fatigued than usual.

I will get tested once i hit the 3 month mark however can you please ***** my situation as i am very very worried. Also i realised that the condom in one encounter was only three fourths of the way on (not all the way to the base).

      Was i at high risk?

Thank You

Sedan

Hello Sedan,
Thank you very much for your post.
If the sexual encounters that you had were as you describe them, I can reassure you that they did not really involve any real risk of HIV infection.  If the vaginal sex was protected, that is safe, provided that the head of your penis remains covered.  Receiving unprotected oral sex does not involve any real risk of HIV infection either.  it does involve other risks such as Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, NSU, and even Syphilis.  The incidence of HIV transmission would have been increased if you had had an outbreak of herpes at the same time, but only during unprotected penetration, which did not happen.
In summary I can assure you that you did not put yourself at any real risk of HIV infection and therefore you do not need to worry.  I am convinced that your symptoms are not related.
Best wishes,
Dr José
