Symptoms check

Symptoms check

Hi Doc,

I've had posted the whole story earlier on the community forum without much feedback, but I was wondering if i could get some idea on the following symptoms which started around 2 weeks after my unprotected intercourse with a girl that I had met at the bar (its been 3 weeks now):

a Spider bite looking bump (itchy) on my pubic hair area (not on penis)

a redish area (not elevated) on the skin of the scrotum (top part attaching to the penis) about the size of a small button (itched for a day than stopped but still there)

Back Pain (Moderate) that popped up 3 times after the exposure

About 3 days ago I felt really fatigued and yesterday and now still I have cold symptoms (whats the different between cold and flu?) such as sneezing, running nose, and mild cough; kind of sore throat (but I smoke alot, so my throat didn't feel great in the first place)

Mild diarrhea also for the past 2 days (stopped now)

Also around 2 weeks ago I fell and had scraped my elbow, and the wound doesn't seem to be healing very well (no scabs forming, instead have this clear hard plastic texture and still can see bloodish underneath it) and still painful to the touch

No rash (or my understanding of rashes) or swollen lymph nodes as I can tell

No Fever yet

Don't know if all this adds up to anything....really worried, please help!

Thanks

Hello,
Thank you very much for your post and welcome to our HIV Forum.
The fact that you had an unprotected penetrative vaginal intercourse, you have put yourself at risk of STDs and my advice to you is to have a full STD screening.  The most common ones would be Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea.  However you have put yourself at risk of others, though rarer, such as syphilis, HIV and Hepatitis.  The risk of having contracted HIV this way from a single encounter is relatively low, but a risk whatsoever.
Having said all this, none of your symptoms are totally typical of acute sero-conversion, but as non-specific symptoms as they are, they could still be possible in this case.  Most people woudl have a high fever, fatigue, malaise, sore throat, diarrhoea, a rash, palapble glands, etc.  Mainly severe flu-like symptoms; cold symptoms are different to flu.  A cold would give symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection, not necessarily with a raised temperature, but a runny nose, sneezing, congestion, cough and catarrh.
Your itchy bump and patch might not be related with this episode or they might be thrush or a fungal skin infection; difficult to give you a diagnosis without having a proper look.
In summary, I do not beleive that any of your symptoms are related to HIV infection as I do not think you have been infected.  However I would recommend you having a full STD screening, including a HIV Duo test after 28 days.
Best wishes,
Dr José
