nclusive tests, anal sex

Hi,

I'm a male that had unprotected anal sex as the receptive partner. That was 7 weeks ago. At 2 weeks I got the rna pcr test done and it was negative.  At five weeks I had the rapid response oral test again, negative. At 6.5 weeks (45 days) I got both the rna pcr test and the HIV AB SCREEN W/ reflex test.  This was again negative.  How conclusive would you say these results are?  For most scenarios I've heard 6 weeks is enough, but is there some added risk from male and male sex?

Hello,
Thank you very much for your post and welcome to our HIV forum.
Unprotected receptive anal intercourse involves thae highest risk of HIV infection if the other partner is positive, over 3% per sexual intercourse.  For this reason, I would stress the importance to use condoms when engaging in this kind of sexual activity.
All your negative test results are highly reassuring and practically totally conclusive.  However I would still recommend you having a final antibody test at 8 weeks, just to be on the safe side.  I am very confident that this test will be negative.
Best wishes,
Dr José

Thanks for your reply, that does ease my anxiety some.  I do have a follow up question.  If no ejaculation takes place does this decrease the risk?

Sorry, I wasn't sure If I had to use your full name for you to be notified of a response.

Does the risk of exposure decrease if there was no ejaculation?  Also, I have read that if the partner is HIV+, but they are currently being treated and they have a negative viral load from a HIV PCR RNA test there is almost no risk of transmission.  Is that correct?
