seborrhiec dermatitis and its relation to hiv infection

hi i recently went to the dermatologist for a rash on the back of my scalp she told me it was a fugal infection and was given a paper for seborrheic dermatitis and was told that i also have a stork bite birth mark. she proscribed me with ketoconazole 2% shampoo.  I first notice the rash after a long bike ride with a old helmet.  I recently have been testing for hiv for the last 3 months due to a high risk condom break with a girl a barely know she said she got tested before we slept together but in this world you can trust no one. stupid as all hell i know. i have done  one three day blood test 2 weeks after contact oral tests at 6 and 8 weeks and at 12 weeks all have come up negative. now my questions is yesterday the initial rash started to fade but  later in the day the the area around the stork bite got very red and very itchy but not greesy or flaky i put some hydrocortozone on it and the next morning it was not as red but still a little itchy.  what are the chances that this is related to hiv infection and what is the next step. i also have an on gone dry cough could that be related aswell  help would be greatly appreciated 3 months of worry are really starting to get to me

Hello

Seborrhoeic dermatitis is very very common and as your dermatologist has said, is often caused by a fungal infection.

It does appear in advanced HIV disease but in my experience this occurs after several years at the very minimum.

I do not believe that you have HIV from the episode and it is probable that the oral tests are correct. Oral tests quite simply are not as good as blood tests so if you (or anyone else) is concerned regarding the possibility of HIV then a blood test - perferably at least 3rd generation but ideally fourth generation HIV tests are best.

I repeat though, I do not believe from what you have said that HIV is in the picture at all.

best regards, Sean
