I just got the BioRapid HIV-1+2 serum plasma or blood test. It was given to me by the military. They used blood to test. Its from a company called BioKit. It was negative, but they only really waited about 15-16 min not the full 20. The control came up within like the first 5 min would the positive line come up with the control or at least shortly after? Have you heard or this test? The test was done at about 5 months after any possible exposure. Am I good to go?

Basically is it ok that they didnt wait a full 20 min, I heard it usually comes up with 10 min.

I cannot comment on the abbreviations found on their web site however they seem to be claiming 100% sensitivity for the detection of HIV and HIV seroconversion under whatever conditions are suggested by those abbreviations.  Thus, as I said before, you are good to go, no HIV.  EWH

Doc I found this on Biokits web site inregards to the Biorapid Hiv test could you explain what it means? Under sensitivity it listed this:
- 100% in BBI Anti-HIV-1 panes for seroconversion: AC, AF, AI and J
- 100% in BBI Anti HIV Mixed titre performance panel (PRB 203)

I feel as though I am beginning to repeat myself to questions asked a slightly different way.  In general you are right, the HIV line is lower than the control line so the plasma used for testing gets to the HIV line first.  This is a major part of when the tests turn positive but not the only one (the concentration of HIV antibody is also a factor).

I would still consider the result final and, as I told you earlier, your test was negative.  time to stop worrying and move forward.  EWH

In regards to these types of tests I heard that the sample is brought across the board and reaches the test line first then the control line. So the test line should so up at about the same time as the control if positive. Is this true. Would the doc adding a couple extra drops of the clear solution ( it calls for 2 he put 3 or 4 in) have any affect? Is this test considered a final result? For instance would you allow someone to donate whole blood after this?

There is a lot of "safety net" built into these tests.  They did not follow the instructions but your test result is still negative.  Still no reason to worry.  As for the swollen lymph node, look for another cause--believe the test, not symptoms.   EWH

Thank you for your response. They didn't look at it for 20 they threw it out after they told me I was negative. Have you ever seen a test like this turn positive after 15 min? I have a tender spot in my left armpit. It seems to be more on the muscle that goes into my arm. Would swollen glands be more toward the chest area?

Good to go.  This is an excellent rapid test and it is OK that they told you it was negative after about 15 minutes.  Most positives come up well before 20 minutes (not to mention that in many situations like this they let you go in about 15 minutes but still look at the test for the full 20).  You have nothing to worry about-good test, ample time to turn positive had passed when they gave you the OK.  EWH
