Duo test relationship to Elisa test

if an HIV Duo test was positive at 7 weeks (still waiting for the result) is it at all possible that an Elisa antibodies test could be negative at 8 weeks? This is a complicated situation. I realize that more information may be required but will keep it brief for now. Thanks for your consideration.

The duo test IS an ELISA, combined with a test for HIV p24 antigen.  If a duo test is positive at 7 weeks, it is because HIV antibody is present.  Therefore, an ELISA antibody test will always be positive in that circumstance.  If your duo test is positive, there is no point to repeating an ELISA; you have HIV and that's all there is to it.  If so, you need to immediately make an appointment with a doctor or clinic for proper medical care.  On the other hand, if your duo test returns negative, it will be 100% proof you do not have HIV.

There is no need to add any of the "complicated" information.  There is nothing you can add that could change my opinion and advice.

I see this is your second question on the forum since February.  Please note that MedHelp permits a maximum of 2 questions every 6 months on the professionally moderated forums, in order to avoid burdening the forums with anxiety-driven questions by the same people.  Just a friendly warning so you don't risk losing your posting fee on another question in the next few months, without getting a reply.

I have no way of knowing what Chicago clinics offer the duo test (more often known in the US as the combo test).  You could call the city health dept for advice; or just check with various clinics and doctors' offices.

Based on the anxityies that seemed evident in your discussion with Dr. Hook a few months ago, I recommend you not go to a doctor or clinic and ask for the combo or any other specific test.  Instead, describe hte nautre of your exposure or other reason(s) you are concerned about HIV, then follow their advice about the best test in your siutation.
