Extremely worried, Is It A Symtoms of HIV?‏

Dear Doctor,

The following is my situation:

I had an protected sex with 2-3 sex workers a year ago, the condoms didn't break or slip off, and hand job with 4-5 sex workers without any protection. (One girl touched my penis right about 1 min after she put her figures inside her vagina). 3 month later, I had a fever for about 4 days after that, and then, about another 3-4 month later, I had extremely dry throat at night for 2-3 days, my throat was so dry that it woke me up in the middle of the night looking for water. And about 2 month ago, I got feast infection under my right arm, and till now, I still have the feast infection under the arm, but it getting better now. I'm also having white coated tongue now (but I had this white coated tongue issue 2 years ago).

How likely am I getting HIV virus from my experience and body conditions I got? thanks in advance!

There is no risk for HIV from the exposure that you describe.  HIV is not transmitted through masturbation even though it is normal for persons engaged in mutual masturbation to get each other's genital secretions on each other in the process.  HIV has never been transmitted in the manner of contact you describe -you are not going to be the first.

As for  your symptoms, they are non-specific.  The symptoms of the ARS or early HIV infection are TOTALLY non-specific and when people experience "ARS symptoms" they are much more likely to have something else, usually some other, more typical virus infection.  When this has been studied in the US, less than 1% of persons seeking medical care for "ARS symptoms" are found to have HIV, the remainder having symptoms due to other processes. In contrast, over a given year, there is almost no one who has not had a viral illness, night sweats or both (sometimes on multiple occasions).  In addition, yeast infections are very common in normal people. that  you got a yeast infection is in no way suggestive of HIV.  For a person to try to judge their HIV risk based on "ARS symptoms" is a waste of time.

Finally, if it has been a year and you are nervous, why not get an HIV blood test.  Relative to the exposure you describe, the results will be negative and will prove that you did not get HIV from the exposure you describe.  Results at this time will be totally reliable.

Hope these comments are helpful to you. EWH
