HIV Expsosure, and symptoms

Ok, on June 15 i had sexual contact with a stripper in Las Vegas. I was drinking a large amount of alcohol and was pretty drunk so the night is pretty fuzzy.

I was in the back room with her and i think she put a condom on me, but not entirely sure. Plus i didnt get a full erection, so i dont think i penetrated her. After a few moments of this she began to give me oral, i dont remember her taking the condom off of me, but i know for a fact it was not on while she gave me oral, and then finished me with a hand job.

My concern is HIV exsposure. IS this a risk? One thing to note is in the side of my groin region i have jock rash/itch that was there the night of exsposure. Can this be a problem when coming into contact with vaginal fluids?

I had a sore throat a few days later after the exsposure which lasted about 6 days, and a few night sweats. Is this a symptom?

Also early this week i had tingling in my finger tips and my hands would go numb really fast when going to sleep.

Does everyone get the ARS symptoms before? Like Flu and fever?

Also i have been getting head aches as well.

Does this all add up to be a bad sign?

Despite what you apparently assume, this is a pretty low risk situation for HIV.  Few strippers or commercial sex workers in the US have HIV and the odds are strong the woman involved doesn't have it.  And the sex was basically safe; nobody catches HIV from receiving oral sex, or at least it is so rare that you can forget about it.  (HIV isn't transmitted by saliva.)  And of course hand-genital contact doesn't transmit it.  The presence of jock itch or other rash doesn't change any of this. Finally, symptoms never are a reliable indicator of new HIV infection, and your symptoms don't suggest HIV anyway.

So bottom line, you really don't even need HIV testing.  However, if my reassurance isn't sufficient and you need a negative test result to allow you to get over your concerns, have a test 6 weeks after the event.  You can be sure of a negative result, assuming you have no other risks of HIV infection.

For more information, use the search link to look for 'time to positive HIV test', 'ARS symptoms', and 'HIV transmission risk'. Or just click on any 10 randomly selected threads on this forum.  Virtually the identical questions you ask have been addressed innumerable times.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD

Thanks Dr. I havent had any other possible risks. I have only one other partner who i have been with for a very long time now. We do have unprotected sex, but i dont think this is a risk. She has only had one other partner as well. But since the time of possible exsposure i have not had sex with her b/c i didnt want to put her at risk.

Is a four week test a good idea or just a waste of money?

thanks again Dr. this is a great service you are providing.
