HIV Fear-Need closure

Hi Docs,

I have posted a question 2 months back but I really need a closure on my fear and anxiety as my anxiety is so bad that I suffered from a heat palpitation and was admitted to the ER last week.  I really need to move on with my life and cannot live like this anymore.

Last April, I went to a massage parlor looking a HJ but the lady gave me a 3-4 seconds of unprotected BJ without me asking and I jumped up and stopped her.  We did not have any other sexual contact.  I suffered a rash on my arms for 2 days 6 weeks after the incident and an UTI(blood in urine) 11 weeks after and was cured by Cirpo.  However, I have been suffering from constant dizziness and fatigue ever since.  Not other symptoms such as fever, sore throat, penis discharge or penile sore.

My questions are:

1) what is my real risk of HIV? Is it absolutely zero or very low risk?  If low risk, can u give me a number?

2)Are rash and UTI symptoms of HIV infections?

3)Are constant fatigue and dizziness symptoms of HIV infection?

4)what Symptoms should someone look for 1 yr,/2 yrs after if he is infected?

5)I just did my annual and the blood/urine test all come back normal, is it a sign that I am not infected?

I really need to move on with my life and cannot live on like this. Please help

This will be my final answer.  This is not an HIV issue, it is a mental health issue.  You should test to prove to yourself that you are not infected.  If you are still worried, or if you decide not to test, then you should seek the help of a mental health professional to help you.  I say this out of concern for you and nothing more.  EWH

I maybe over worried about this incident but the daily dizziness and fatigue is really bothering me and I don't know how to deal with them.  I  am taking St John's wort but don't seem to help.   Do you think it is all caused by anxiety and not any STI I may have gotten?

I am just feeling very uncomfortable and nothing seems to ease my fear.   Thank you for all your help coz I have no one to talk to about this.

I've answered this for you before.  You want me to repeat myself- I will do it, once more.  No one has EVER been shown to get HIV from receipt of oral sex. you are not going to be the first.  There is no MEDICAL reason for you to test related to the exposure you ahve described.  If you need it to reassure yourself (and apparently you do), that is another matter and up to you.

Dr. Hook,

Based on your years of extensive experience, you can confidently say that I was not infected with HIV based on this single incident and no need testing at all?

I'm sorry that this encounter continues to create unnecessary fear for you.  You should have achieved closure long ago and for you to continue to worry has no biological basis.  The event you describe was a no risk event.

In answer to your specific questions:
1) what is my real risk of HIV? Is it absolutely zero or very low risk?  If low risk, can u give me a number?
No one has ever been shown to have gotten HIV form receipt of oral sex.  You are not going to be the first.

2)Are rash and UTI symptoms of HIV infections?
A variety of rashes can occur in the course of HIV infection.  Neither your rash nor your UTI symptoms raise any concern about HIV.

3)Are constant fatigue and dizziness symptoms of HIV infection?
No.

4)what Symptoms should someone look for 1 yr,/2 yrs after if he is infected?
None, a positive blood test without symptoms would be the most common manifestation of HIV infect at 1-2 years.

5)I just did my annual and the blood/urine test all come back normal, is it a sign that I am not infected?
I do not know what tests were performed and, unless you had an HIV test, am not terribly interested.  Your routine urine and blood tests are, I suspect, irrelevant.  If you want to know about HIV you need an HIV blood test, not an indirect measure such as blood tests performed as part of an annual checkup.

At this point your problem is not HIV, it is your unwarranted and persistent fear of HIV.  I suggest you seek mental help support and counseling to address your concerns.  EWH
