HIV Risk from Jacuzzi / Hot tub

Dear Doctor, I am quite worried and need some advice please.

I stupidly went to a strip club last week.  All was well until I ended up in a Jacuzzi with a lady. There was no sexual contact of any nature (well only touched her breasts) but my worry is that I don't know who was in the Jacuzzi before us and the liklie-hood that people had sex in it is very good or they may have at least ejaculated in the water. The water was quite warm (at one point too warm to sit for a long time).

At one point I also sat on the edge of the jacuzzi.  My question is am I at risk of HIV / std's either from the lady I was with in the jacuzzi or any semen which may have been present in the water.  I kept my head above water at all times but was obviously naked in the tub.

My other concern is sitting on the side of the jacuzzi, what if I sat on someone's ejaculate on the side of the tub? I do have a small tear on my anus at present (I know this because it is sore, and is from too vigorous wiping of my backside!). I also had a raw scratch on my leg which was in the water.  The anus is mucous membranes so a sore there would to help either? Is this a risk?

I am worried sick so please let me know if there is any risk for HIV or STD's?

Many thanks.

Of course that's such a far out possibility that its frankly weird and silly.  But if it happened, there would still be no risk of HIV.  Do your best to forget about it and move one.

Thank you you for the feedback Doc. Would this hold true even if I sat on semen accidentally with my bare backside and the small injury I have down there as mentioned earlier? This will be my last question on this matter. Thanks and regards.

Welcome to the forum.

Some questions can be accurately answered based on the title alone.  There is absolutely no risk of HIV or any other STD from sharing a hot tub with an infected person.

Now I have read the question itself and your discussion on the community forum.  As you have already seen, I agree with the response you had there.  The details in your question -- skin cuts, whether someone had ejaculated in the spa, and so on make no difference.  Even if the hot tub had not been adequately maintained with chlorine or other sanitizer chemicals (which is probably was), dilution of semen or other body fluids would guarantee no chance of infection. Nobody has ever caught HIV in this manner and you needn't worry about it.  You do not need testing and if you have a regular sex partner, you can safely continue your usual sexual practices.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD
