HIV test after 8 weeks

Dear Doctors, first of all I appreciate all the great advice you give to people in this forum, now my case is the following:
I had unprotected vaginal sex with a female sex worker, it lasted a few minutes until I realized that the condom was not on, she says she gets tested every month and that she is fine with no HIV or other STDs but that just her word, I could not get her to take an HIV test with me present. I took the following tests:
1. At 5 weeks: HIV 1-2 AG/AB 3rd/4th generation test, that is the description of the test from the lab, I asumme is a 3rd. generation test for antigens and a 4th generation test for antibodies, I hope that you can clarify if this test exists.
2. At 6 weeks a 4th generation antibodies test.
3. At 8 weeks the same 4th generation antibodies test and a p24 antigen test. All of the test I took were negative.
With all that I have read on the forum I would be confident to say that I am HIV negative but the one thing that keeps me worried is that since the 5th week I have been with a sore throat, that is the only sympton that I have and it is still going today, so that is almost 3 weeks with that sympton, do you think is related?

I hope with this information you could give me some advice on how to proceed the next few weeks, should I get another test? If so, what kind of test could definitely give me a 100% reliable resutl that I am HIV negative? I know you probably have answered similar questions but your brain always think of the worst possible scenario.

Thanks for all your help.

Welcome to the forum.

Your question is one that allows an accurate reply based only on the title you chose, "HIV test after 8 weeks".  Assuming that test was negative, you can be 100% certain you did not catch HIV.  It doesn't matter what sort of exposure you had or any symptoms you may have experienced. Test results beyond 6-8 weeks always overrule all other considerations.  For more detail on this, see this thread:  http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/1704700.

Now I have read the rest of your question, and also see you asked the same one on the HIV international forum.  As implied by the above comments, I agree with the advice you had there from Dr. Cummings.

As for "the one thing that keeps me worried is that since the 5th week I have been with a sore throat...", see my comment above about symptoms and test results.  Your tests prove that HIV is not the cause of your sore throat.  And anyway, sore throat by itself is never a symptom of a new HIV infection.

"should I get another test?"  No.  All is well; no further testing is needed.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD
