Dear doctor happy new year please I have inquiry about possible hiv exposure and symptoms , I had body to body massage in thailand 29/4/2012 with protective oral sex and protective vaginal penetration intercourse condom did not teared or went out then I became so sad and worried about possible hiv risk exposure at same time I had some symptoms like congestion , neck muscles pain and nick pain without fever , i tested seven hiv tests below my tests results and dates : 1- after 15 days p24 combo negative 2- after 19 days p24 combo negative 3- after 29 days p24combo negative. 4-after 50 days hiv antibodies test negative 5-after 90 days p24 combo negative 6-after 106 days hiv antibodies test negative 7-finally after 184 days p24 combo test also came negative All tests combined with c& b hepatitis tests and syphilis which all are negative
My questions : 1-are all the hiv , c&b hepatitis & syphilis tests are same and effective in whole world in other word is the combo test accuracy result here exactly like in usa or there is difference ? 2-are these symptoms like urine burning , neck pain and piles are relates to hiv or not ? 3-what is the percentage of accuracy and reliability for my tests are my tests results are conclusive 4- do I need to retest again in soon future ?

Welcome to the forum.

But WOW!  All those HIV tests???  This was an essentially zero risk exposure.  It is unlikely your partner had HIV, since few Thai sex workers are infected.  (Thailand has had one of the world's most effective HIV prevention campaigns among sex workers, and things are much safer than 10-15 years ago.)  Second, with condom-protected vaginal and oral sex, the chance of transmission was virtually zero even if your partner had HIV.

Most important, all your tests after the combo test at 4 weeks were superfluous.  The combo test (antibody plus p24 antigen) is 100% reliable at 4 weeks.  Your subsequent results were unnecessary but confirmed that you didn't catch HIV.  To your specific questions:

1) Yes, these tests are pretty much the same world wide.  And as you know, Thailand is a medically sophisticated country with diagnostic test standards not materially different than in Europe or North America.

2) HIV test results always overrule symptoms.  Yours are not typical for HIV, but even if they were, your test results prove HIV isn't the cause.

3) See above:  100%.

4) For sure you don't need any more testing.  You can forget this sexual exposure and go on with your life with no worry about it.

Best wishes-- HHH, MD
