Long Term Sore throat

Hi Dr

I had a low risk exposure (received a **, fingered & performed cunillingus) on an Escort 13 weeks ago, long with protected intercourse (comdoms were intact afterwards)

After some initial tests at the local GUM clinic and was tested for Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea, results came back 3 weeks later as negative. Was then retested for Chlamydia at the gum request (week four) and results came back a week later negative.

After my vist to the GUM clinic, I started to experience a sore/pain in my neck (stabbing/burning pain) left hand side of my neck only - this continued from day 6 to week 7 inclusive with a small relief for a week with a mild sore throat?

This turn turned to neck tension for a week, and then the last five weeks its been a persistent sore throat, (took some antibaticis from the doctor, during week 11, since then the pain is not a severe more lke a feeling of a lump in my throat (no pain when eating or sleeping)

Questions
1) Do you think my symptons point to HIV Anxiety or have you heard of anyone with a higher risk exposure having these symptons as part of ARS?

2) Any other STDs that my cause these symptons that I should test for?

3) I have a test book for next week, its been a long anxious & stressful 13 weeks?

1) I haven't changed my mind since yesterday.

2) You should not request any particular tests.  Trust the GUM clinic's judgment about what other STD tests to have, if any.

3) In the 4+ years of this forum, not one person who I or Dr. Hook judged at low risk for HIV later came back and reported a positive test result.  (One person did 2-3 years ago, but it rapidly became apparent he was lying.)

End of thread.  Take care.

Thanks for you guidance, now time to move on

Just had my HIV and Hep results - nothing detected/negative (14 week test) - still awaiting the syphilis one .

I just wish I had been able to believe you all when Doctors and expert told me Low / No risk.....

Hi Dr

Thanks for your answer..., and its good to have an experts opinion regardless of how distant!

And yes i mean blood test for HIV and sycillus.

Sorry last questions after your reply:

1) So just to confirm your reply, your sayng you have never seen or heard of anyone how has experienced my symptons test positive?

2) So should I ask them to test for other things at the same time?

3) How many of the well worried that post on this forum, report back as testing positive?

I hope an pray that my result is negative

Thanks again you and Dr edwards perform an excellent service!

The personal assessment and advice from a UK GUM clinic is more relieable than that of any distant expert, including this forum.

1,2) Neither HIV or any other STD causes the symptoms you describe.  Whenever a person suspects his or her own symptoms have an emotional origin, usually s/he is correct.  But whether that's the case here, I cannot say.  Discuss it with the GUM provider when you have your test next week.

3) Presumably you mean an HIV test.  You can expect a negative result.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD
