Odds of Infection/Pregnant Wife

Doctor,

My wife is 2 months pregnant and is coming back from a business trip tomorrow.  Ive been stuck with questions and fears and decided I need advise/guidance from professionals.  I will try to keep it brief.

Last december I slept with a hooker.  I get recieved unprotected oral sex and about 5 minutes of protected vaginal sex, where I climaxed into the condom.  3 months later out of fear I got an antibody test.  It was negative.  Have not had penetrative sex with anyone (besides new wife) since last december.

In June of this year, a little over 6 months later, I decided for peace of mind to test again, antibody only.  It was negative again.  The kicker here is that I frequent massage parlors and have on 4 or  5 occasions received manual masturbation by hand, with oil or lotion only.  I have never tested from just a handjob risk.

So, in August my wife became pregnant.  What concerns me are a few things.

1.  She just had 2 weeks ago an "abnormal pap."  Can this be somehow HIV/STD related?
2.  Was I at any risk from the handjobs I received?
3.  Is it possible my post 6 month test was too soon to test?
4.  I have an autoimmune condition known as Alopecia Barbrae.  Theres a small patch of facial hair on my chin where hair somehow stopped growing about 3-4 months ago.  Can an autoimmune condition like this be dormant HIV symptom of some kind?
5.  Any advise or guidance you can give me concerning my risks, my wife, or possible more testing for some disease I have overlooked?

My wife comes back tomorrow, and I'm sure sex will commence...do I have anything to fear or worry about?  She's constantly vomiting but I fear that's just the pregnancy...

You need to relax.  Neither of these newly noticed lesions sounds like an STD. The lesion at the base of your penis sounds like folliculitis ( a "hair bump") and the scrotum has many such irregularities which are not typically noticed until someone starts to carefully examine themselves.  EWH

Her HIV test came back negative.

But, you said it is improbable that someone would get an STD from a handjob situation.

I have 2 issues, and don't know whether they are STD's or not.  If you could just tell me if anything like this sounds suspicious.

1.  At the base of my penis on the left side there is a small, pimple sized bump.  It is not a sore, or red, or discolored.  And it does not hurt at all.  But it is a bump that looks like it could be broken.  Pimple or Herpes/STD?

2.  On the skin area of my scrotum (not my actual tecticle itself) there is a similar bump but it appears to not be attached to anything, just a extremely small "ball-like" bump about the size of a pinhead.  It does not appears to be on the surface of the skin but something just under it.  Again, no pain, not colored.  Just a pin sized little ball that is only on the skin of the scrotum.  Could this be an STD?

These discoveries happened yesterday, and I got a little worried.  Not sure if these are pimples or whiteheads or a possible STD of some kind.

No, I would not worry.  Her OB is doing the right thing. HIV blood tests are currently recommended for all women

This is my last question.

Today my wife went in for a 9 weeks checkup for the pregnancy.  Everything is fine with her physically, but she mentioned they did a bunch of bloodwork including an HIV test.

I have read that being pregnant can produce confusing results for HIV tests, is this honestly true?

No, I have never seen or heard of anyone getting HIV from masturbation- never.

Time for you to move forward from this. EWH

Wow that was a fast response!

Your words are reassuring.  My every thought is consumed with my wife's health.  I constantly find myself asking her how she's feeling because I feared basically about receiving the masturbation.

So, if HIV is out of the question from the sex back in december, you say its pretty much out as well from receiving handjobs?  what about other STD's?  Have you ever seen anyone who acquired an STD or HIV thru masturbation?

Welcome to the Forum.  Guilt is a powerful emotion, isn't it.  Before I address your specific questions, let me assure you that you did not get HIV from the exposures you describe.  Most commercial sex workers do not have HIV, condom protected sex is safe sex, and HIV is not spread through oral sex or masturbation.  Further, your negative HIV test confirms that you did not get HIV from your interaction with the CSW. The results are definitive.

As for your specific questions:
1.  She just had 2 weeks ago an "abnormal pap."  Can this be somehow HIV/STD related?
PAP smears are highly non-specific and can be abnormal for many reasons.  There is no reason to worry that the exposures you mention caused your wife's abnormal PAP.

2.  Was I at any risk from the handjobs I received?
No, no risk.

3.  Is it possible my post 6 month test was too soon to test?
No, any test taken more than 8 weeks following an exposure now provides defintive information.  Your results are solid- believe them.

4.  I have an autoimmune condition known as Alopecia Barbrae.  Theres a small patch of facial hair on my chin where hair somehow stopped growing about 3-4 months ago.  Can an autoimmune condition like this be dormant HIV symptom of some kind?
No, no reason for concern.

5.  Any advise or guidance you can give me concerning my risks, my wife, or possible more testing for some disease I have overlooked?
Just relax. you're fine.

Hope these comments help. EWH
