OraQuick Home Test

I am married bisexual male. I had frottage with a guy about 5.2 weeks back. I rubbed my penis on his back. I was thinking may be dipping happened while I was rubbing.

I had Oraquick home test at 4.4 and 5th week. Both were negative. I have no specific Flu symptoms but I had diarrhea for few days in 4th week.

Based on this do I need to continue testing or fifth week Oraquick home test is ok?  As I am highly doubting the dipping part was happened.

Also I wonders how swollen glands look alike under armpit. Are they in group. Do you get them so late like after 5th week of exposure?

Thanks

Welcome to our Forum.  There are really two questions here- did you dip or not and what does your test tell you?  The answer to the 1rst question will inform the answer to the second question.  If you did not dip, there is no risk to the events you described and I would not even recommend testing.  My guess is that no penetration occurred- you would have known if you did.

As for your test results, they provide strong evidence that you did not acquire HIV from the encounter you describe.  Four weeks after exposure, about 90% of recent infections are detectable by the OraQuick at 4 weeks.  When you combine this fact with the fact that you do not know that you penetrated your partner or that her was infected with HIV, overall there is little chance that you acquired HIV from this exposure.  Can you be sure, no but the odds are very strongly in your favor that you did not get HIV from this event.  Definitive results, if you feel the need, can be obtained by testing with a 4th generation, DUO test.

I hope these comments are helpful.  EWH

On rare occasions the OraQucik HIV tests may take slightly longer than lab-based HIV antibody tests to become positive.  Your result is very string evidence that you did not get HIV from the encounter you described.  A result in a week or so more would be entirely conclusive.  EWH

I mean it will be still conclusive after 8 weeks and few hours from exposure time?

This is my last question as far as conclusive result for Oraquick Home Test (ORAL SWAB). Are they conclusive at any time after 8 weeks or have to wait quite long time. Thanks Sir

Yes, I am suffering a lot of anxiety. Actually Dr. HHH mentioned that blood test are virtually conclusive at 5th week and Orackquick home test virtually conclusive at 7th week. For me taking rapid blood test 3 days after 5th week.I thought I can put this behind now and move forward in my life. So what you recommending that I can stop testing now?  I am 34 years old and healthy person , do not take drugs and stuff.

Thanks Sir,

I think you are perseverating about what was most probably a no risk event.  At 45 days an Oraquick would have detected well over 95% of recent infections. Remember that's 95% of infections that occur far less than 1% of the time IF you had been exposed. Mathematically there is little benefit from further testing.

I think your anxiety has gotten the best of you.  My sense is that you test again tomorrow, in two weeks, two months or two years the results will be negative.

I really have nothing more to say. EWH

Hi doctor thanks for your responses. I took clearview finger prick test (blood) test at 38 days (5 weeks and three days). Today i took oraquick advance oral swab at testing center and this is 45 days from exposure. Should i still need rapid blood test done @ 8 weeks. Thanks

The OraQuick is not a DUO test and does not provide conclusive results until more than 8 weeks after exposure.  DUP tests are widely available in the Miami area, perhaps at the Helath Department if you do not wish to see your own doctor. EWH
