Possible Hiv

Hi Doctors could  you please tell me wether any std testing including Hiv, which I am most concoerned about is needed.  13 days ago I went to  a massage parlour , on the 10th day after possible exposure I got the following symptoms
1) Diarrhea which lasted a few days,I now have also lots of rumbling noises from the stomach and not yet back to normal stools
2) Headache which I still have at present
3) slight sore throat
4) ulcer on tongue (maybe stress related)
5) pain at times left hand side under ribs (spleen??)
I dont know what is classified as a fever, here in Australia they say it starts at 37,  my body temp was between 36.5 and 36.9.
The events that occured at the massage parlour are the following:

1)the girl rubbed her vagina all over my body, including my backside
2) I then turned on my back but put my undies back on and she continued to rub herself over me , there was no oral sex, no penetration only rubbing over my body including over the penis but with my undies on.
3) she then kissed me on the lips, where I had a cold sore (herpes), this has concerned me with HIV, I am worried that she could have had a sore or bleeding in her mouth and transmitted it to me that way
Do any of the symptoms I have described resemble that of an early HIV infection, I am married and dont want to give my wife anything.  Please advise me wether to be tested for HIV, especially with the symptoms I have described.

This doctor and I have a difference of opinion.  You have to decide who to believe.  I am confident that you do not have HIV  EWH

Sorry Doctor, please read it over again, my Doctor does not agree with you, he has stated to me that there is no such thing as  NO RISK, and he says that if I had a cut or graze on my skin and her body fluids came into contact with the cut or graze, this could result in HIV infection, he also says that if blood from her mouth or elsewhere came into contact with my Herpes on my lip, this could also result in possible infection.  Sorry for the misunderstanding, and I really do value your time and opinion. This Doctor works in a very specialised area in a Sexual Health Clinic, that is why I am confused.

Hi Doctor,
This doctor seems to think, nothing is no risk, he says if I had a cut or skin graze and her vaginal fluids came into contact with it,  or even from my lip herpes, if blood from her mouth came into contact with it, it could result in ifection.  Do you reccomend testing for HIV.  Has transmission in any of these ways ever happened before?

Lymph nodes can swell due to any of a large number of infections both viral and bacterial, as well as due to allergic reactions, due to autoimmune disorders and other problems.  If swollen lymph nodes are present, we urge clients to not to worry about them in relationship to HIV because they are such a non-specific problem.  When a person has swollen lymph nodes, the chance that they are due to HIV can be measured as a fraction of 1%.  In your case it is far lower than that as your expsoure was no risk.  EWH

These are all symptoms that could be due to any number of causes, including anxiety, however HIV is not one of them.  You are not at risk from the expsoure you describe.  EWH

Thanks Doctor, sorry to be a nuisance, I'm just concerned over the pain on the left under the ribs possibly spleen, and forgot to mention about my dry mouth, all this along with headache and diarrhea and lots of gas in the stomach, does ARS present itself at all in this manner? This is my last question to you.

Welcome to the Forum.  As you have been informed on the HIV Prevention Community site, there is no risk for HIV or any other STD from any of the activities you describe.  HIV and other STDs are not spread by rubbing, kissing, or sharing towels.  You may have given her your HSV-1 (cold sore) but you are at no risk for anything from her.

The symptoms you describe could very well be due to anxiety or due to some non-STD, non-HIV virus that you acquired through the course of your normal activities.  They are certainly not due to HIV acquired from the activities you describe however.

Hope this helps.  You have nothing to worry about.  EWH
