Possible Risk

I had a potential exposure while out one night with friends. I tested negative with anitbody blood test at 4 weeks post exposure, again negative with at home oral fluid tests at 68 days, and at 82 days. I dont have a spleen and am wondering if I can consider my self in the group that should only trust results after 6 months? Also, I do infact have oral thrush (currently taking Nystatin swish and swallow, as of yesterday now on Diflucan for 5 days) and some pain in my groin, and a small rash on posterior end. Never had a fever, or other symptoms (other than what i attribute to sever anxiety.)

All of my white bllod cell counts and every other diagnostic measurement, seem to be normal, but i dont feel normal. Would you reccomend I seek further DNA testing for the virus itself?

Thanks

A negative RNA PCR is equivalent to the p24 antigen test in a DUO test.  Believe you test results.  EWH

One last question.

I received a paper copy of the lab results that state
That the type of test was an HIV RNA with quantitative
With numerical values. And then it goes on to state that
It was normal and negative.

Would that measure the same proteins as the p24 antigen?
Is it still conclusive?

You were correct. The tests came back non-reactive or normal. I believe that a lot of my stress over the incident has caused the majority of my physical symptoms. I still can't seem to get rid of the thrush though! My neck and jaw is sore I've got an apetite that comes and goes day by day. However, I expect I'll survive. Thank you for your guidance in one of the most trying times.

Update...

I had the blood drawn yesterday afternoon. The doctor said that the lab should have results back to me within 2 weeks. He didn't seem concerned with the thrush either. He said that he would expect that based on the amount of antibiotics he has prescribed me over the past several weeks including (Bactrim) that he isn't surprised. Another note, i noticed my rash is now also on the tops of my feet. It doesnt help my anxiety.

Stay tuned. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Yes, if an additional DUO test is now negative, you can be assured that you did not get HIV from the events you described. EWH

Thank you. I will go get one of thoe tests done then.

Suffice it to say, all come back negative...Then between the Duo test, and the other antibody tests i have taken. I can rest assured that I don not have HIV and should look elsewhere for the cause of the thrush, and the like?

I sincerely appreciate your time. It means a lot, when someone is looking for answers.

You are doing everything right (since your misstep).  Yes, your doctor should have access to DUO tests- they may be referred to as combination p24 antigen/HIV antibody tests.  EWH

thank you for your quick response. It was an unfortanate event with a girl of unknown status. I am married and this was completely out of character for me. I am stressed out to the max that I may have gotten something like this and then brought it home to my wife. I have scheduled some time with a therapist, and have come clean with my wife, but it is like a perfect storm of things since the event. Then when you throw on the, "No Spleen" issue on the top, it's really concerning. I have been to the doctor and they tell me the same thing you have. Can i request a DUO test from him?

Thanks again, i know you probably get exhausted by worry wells, like Me.

Welcome to the Forum.  I'll be pleased to comment.  While, as you know, the absence of a spleen may delay your antibody production, it would not eliminate it and I suspect that your negative tests accurately reflect that you did not get HIV from the exposure you describe.  You do not provide details but I am confident that it is unlikely that your partner had HIV and even if they did, most exposures to infected partners do not lead to infection.  There are no studies of HIV antibody development in splenectomized persons that I am aware  of but if I were you, I would not be worried.  The results of a DUO test at this time would certainly be definitive.

In addition, I would urge you not to worry about your thrush or your rash.  Most people with thrush do not have HIV despite what the internet says.   EWH
