Worried about unprotected Oral Sex and Hiv Transmission with Mouth Burn

Hello Doctors and thank you for having this forum!!

On November 9th, I had protected sexual intercourse (vaginal intercourse) with a sex worker who's HIV status is unknown.  I did receive unprotected oral sex with her ... She went down on me and I went down on her.  The night before this occasion, I ate pizza and burned the inside of the top of my mouth.  So, my concern is ... when I went down on this woman, could I have contacted HIV or any other STD with the burn in my mouth??  Do I need testing for HIV or any other STD?  I read in some websites that Oral sex is not 100% safe and mouth burns can cause HIV transmission to occur?  I am really worried and it's completely on my mind!  Please help!  Thank you!

Also, is there any risk of genital warts or herpes from the situation I described??  Thank you!

Welcome back to our Forum. As you know from other posts about oral sex, our stance is that giving or receiving oral sex is not a risk for HIV.  Some others suggest that there is an appreciable risk of HIV from oral sex however, there are no convincing scientific reports which support these statements.  The presence of a burn in your mouth, or a sore, or ingestion of blood does not change this.  Still no risk an no reason for testing.

I hope that this comment is helpful to you. EWH

I repeat from above "there are no convincing scientific reports which support these statements"  This incudes oral sex.

Hello Dr. Hook,

Thanks again for answering my question.  That is what I was hoping to hear.  This will be my last set of questions if you have the time to answer them.

Last year, I went to get tested for HIV and all the other STDs at a health clinic and the nurse told me that oral sex is a risk for hiv and a condom should be worn at all times.  This really makes me nervous, but just like everyone on this forum said, my tests came back negative.  Thank God!

So, there never has been a known case of HIV transmission through oral sex?  Would that also apply to the same reason why there has never been HIV transmission through kissing as well?

Thank you Dr. Hook, I really appreciate the support!
