re fever

hii doctor i posted a question long time before regarding ivf protocol but anyways i tested negative for hiv  , but i had another exposure which worries me doc  , i went to a classy massage parlour in indonesia but i ask the gal to use a condom  but dunno my mind and my anxiety is still thinking that it was unprotected   as 10 days after that i got a very high fever ranging from 37 degrees to 38,4  and severe headache   well  the fever was completely down in a day because of panadol   but since then i experience fatigue for a week but not that bad could still work and travel   well my question is assuming it was unprotected and i am experiencing ars  could the fever last only for a day with panadol  and i had no rash no sore throat and what abt the fatigue ?  have u seen a patient experiencing ars who had a fever lasting for one day  ?  and also i feel pain in my armpit at times doc  do u think it has anything to do with lymph nodes

Welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure I understand your question.  Are you asking me whether or not you really used a condom?  Sicne you intended to do so, you probably did -- so I don't know what you're worried about. But even without a condom, the odds of transmission of HIV from any single vaginal sex exposure are in the average range of 1 chance in 2,000, if your partner had HIV -- and most sex workers (in Indonesia or elsewhere) do not.  It's very rare for anyone to catch HIV after any single sexual exposure.

The odds are overwhelming that your fever 10 days later are due to something other than HIV.  Among other things, fever due to a new HIV infection lasts at least 1-2 weeks, and acetaminophen (Panadol and other brands) wouldn't have any effect on it.  It is not possible for fever due to a new HIV infection to last only a day.  And lymph node inflammation due to HIV doesn't cause armpit pain.

So no worries about HIV.  Of course, if you remain concerned, you are free to be tested.  If you do that, and if this is your only possible exposure, you can expect negative results.
