Recent HIV diagnosis CD4 T-Cell siginificant drop

My son tested positive for HIV January 27, 2011, he is 25, his test results at that time showed CD4 (T-Cells = 1100) and a viral load of 3200.  He went to a ID doctor to begin treatment but they said they needed to draw blood and follow up in two weeks, he went back for his 2 week follow upi yesterday CD4 (T-Cells = 694) and viral load 7000.  He ask the doctor why his CD4 (T-Cell dropped that much and they told him they didnt know, can someone please help me understand why in 2 weeks the CD4 (T-Cells dramatically dropped) does this mean he could be in the 200 level next week?  Will he ever be able to get his CD4 (T-Cells at a high number again?

His CD4 cells are good and his VL is low he may not need to go on medication for years. He needs to follow his ID doctors advice. As for the the decline in the CD4 numbers you can't base anything off them on a couple of tests. He needs to know that he needs to test about the same time of day each time to get the most accurate tests results.

You're son will be ok  these days. HIV and aids  are not as life threatening as they were several years ago  I've lived with HIV for 6 years not a problem for me at all it never stops me doing any thing  as long as you're son looks after his health. He will have no problems with HIV  pravtise safe safer sex ect. When he does need to go on meds it's no big deal he will be. Monitored by doctors  the main problem with HIV. Is social stigma my advice to you would be find out as much about HIV as possible through someone who lives with it  my cd4 as never been above 600. But it's nothing to worry about.  The hardest thing is getting you're head around  HIV  once you. Know it's  managed then your  ok. He can still live a long life  . I went to see a. HIV councillor which was a huge help to me made me realise getting HIV wasnt my fault. But one of those things. So I stopped beeting myself  up about it  my motto is if someone has a problem with me being. HIV posative it's their problem not mine . Take care  steve
