how long totest positive

by stubby226, Apr 20, 2009 02:43PM
I was stuck with a needl at work in 2007.  my initial tests were neg.  The sorce was positive  for hepc. and hiv.  I develped hep c and wasstarted on tx.  Have been preety sick with different probems during tx.  I tested positive for HIV 3 months ago.  half of my docs say it cannot be from the needle stick.  The other docs say it is that due to my illiness that my body did not develop antibodies.  Is it possible under certain circumstances for a Hiv exposure not to show positive till 3 years later?

No it's not possible to be exposed and not show antibodies for 3 years.

Teak, thank you for your answer.  I do have a question.  If the antibodies have to be  present before 3 years wht do the CDC recommends being checked at 1 yr, and 5 year.  Also why would a doctor or nurse tell someone to get checked at 10 years?  This seems contraindicative.

No where did you read that the CDC say checked at 1 yr, and 5 year. If you were positive you would be checked several times a year to keep a record of your cd4 and percentages and viral load.

I am going on vacation but I will get the info when I get back.  I know th university docs told my pcp that it absolutely be from needle stick a year early.  It gets so confusing.  The bottom line is I am positive and I did not do drugs, nor was I  sexually active outside my marriage.  I had 2 nedle sticks 1 in 2001 and 2008.  Just curious.

This is kind of weird, how about your husband, is he negative?
If you are positive, you probably got it from your husband otherwise you would off shown positive long time ago for sure
