HIV, anxiety, stress and psychological effects

Hi, after 3 week of possible exposure  (unprotected vaginal sex) with the infected girl, I went to a doctor and blood were drawn and sent to the lab. The test were conducted on HIV P24 antigen which was negative and HIV 1+2 ELISA which was non-reactive. I didn't see any symptoms until 2 days towards the end of week 4, I started to have some fatigue and a loose stool and sometimes a bit of watery (watery stool not more than two days). The diarrhear took seven to nine days and it stoped (it wasn't that bad course I used to go to the toilet 2 or 3 times in a day) I also had a blocked nose but didn't cough, I've also lose some weight by 2  or 3 kg. On week 5 and 2 days some rash apeared on the left arm and it lasted for a day and disappeared. I must mention that I was stressed and also anxious while waiting for my lab results. Could this be a symptoms of HIV or anxiety, stress and pschological effects played a part. How long can a diarrhea coursed by stress and anxiety last, is it normal that it can last for more than three days?

I already told you that your six week test is not likely to change. There really isn't much more to say. At this point you should stop worrying.

Feel free to post the result of your 3 month test, which I expect to be negative. If you still have anxiety, then please discuss it with a mental health professional- you may post on that as well. Other than those two scenarios, I will not have anything else to say.

The HIV Prevention community has different rules regarding excessive posting. Your last thread there is 44 comments long.  That community gets a large volume of posts- you're not the only person with an HIV concern after all-, and Teak and Lizzie can't spend all of their time on you. It has nothing to do with politeness. Since this forum doesn't get nearly as many posts, the rules are somewhat more lenient, that's all.

A negative result at 6 weeks or later is highly unlikely to change. That said, it is still important that you test out to 3 months for a conclusive result, just to be safe. However, at this point you should expect subsequent tests to be negative.

Also, the rapid test that you took was reliable; expect the traditional, blood-drawn test to also be negative.

I'm from the clinic now I'm still negative on ELISA rapid (six weeks post exposure), I've requested them to draw blood and it was sent to the lab, the results will be back on the 24 December 2009. Do you guys think that this result could still change after six weeks. I've read somewhere that it takes 2 to 6 weeks for the antibody to be produced, is there any chances that this results can change to positive.

I only delete posts when they repeat the same question or concern and an answer has already been provided in this forum.

Whatever you read about "when you are injured you are on high risk since protein are all over the body" is completely false. An infection on your thigh would not have any effect on your HIV risk in one way or another.

At this point, your HIV tests are the best evidence available on your HIV status. You have already had a negative test that is 90-95% accurate. When you get a test at 6 weeks, that test will be 95-99% accurate. Any test after 8 weeks will be more than 99% accurate.

I suggest that you STOP searching for answers on-line at this point and rely on your HIV tests and your doctor's advice concerning your HIV status. Searching the Internet for information will only fuel your anxiety. Based on your previous test, I expect that you will continue to test negative.

Guy I've posted a question and no one is treating it. Tomorrow it will be the end of my six weeks after exporsure, and my Doctor said I must do another test at week six, I need to know in order to boost my confidence or to prepare for the wost. I read somewhere that when you are injured you are on high risk since protein are all over the body. I just wanna know because On 22 Oct 2009 15 days before the exposure, I had an infection on my thigh and the doc gave me an antibiotics. By the time of exposure it was riped but covered with a badage (elastoplast). Does all this increase my risk, since they say the body will have the proteins.

For the last time, your symptoms do not resemble ARS. Any further posts about your symptoms will be deleted without comment.

I mean a diarrhea of more than 12 day (soft stool and sometimes watery (bit)) I don't frequently visit the toilet, I make two to three trip per day to the toilet. The fatigue, and dizziness does not happen always (a day or after two days)

Its diarrhea and a bit of fatigue and bit of Dizzyness. Can you say it has to do with ARS.

I have no idea; all I can tell you is that isolated diarrhea is not an ARS symptom.

Hi,

A negative DUO test at 3 weeks is 90-95% accurate; therefore, your results while not conclusive are still very encouraging. As Lizzie told you in the HIV Prevention Community, your symptoms do not mean anything concerning your HIV status. Your symptoms do not sound like ARS anyway and they very well could be anxiety-related.

Have a final test at 3 months as you were advised, but don't worry about it. The odds are very much in your favor at this point.
