Worried, Please help

Hi

I went out one weekend and to cut a long story short, I woke up in a house naked with a man, I have no memory of how I got there what happened or anything. I got dressed and left the property as I was so ashamed of my self. I noticed on the bedroom floor there was opened condom wrappers on the floor, I am assuming we had sex and praying we did use condoms however I dont recall anything of the encounter.

On the monday I got a cold sore on my chin and my throat had a lump like it had swollen up, I also had crippling back pain and sharp pain in my abdominal area, All my results came back negative at the clinic however I did have a UTI -urine infection the doctor explained this is why I had the ache and pain.

I have been extremely worried about the possibilities of contracting hiv from this event , after I took the antibiotic for the uti the symptom's stopped, they have came back now. I cant eat or sleep from worry. I went to the doctor and explained my situation and he said it was clear that I wasn't imagining the back and muscular symptoms but it could be from stress from worrying. I am going to take a test this week which will make it 5 weeks since the event, I know it best to tesat at 3 months however I don't think I can wait that long without having a breakdown.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you can take a 4th generation test (DUO) the result would be over 99% accurate and essentially put you in the clear. An antibody test at 6 weeks would also be highly accurate.

Being a female in the UK, your risk from this is much lower that you think it is. The prevalence of HIV is rare in heterosexual men there.  You are doing the right thing by getting tested given the circumstance but I expect you to test negative. A one-off encounter generally isn't something to be concerned about unless you had some reason to think that your partner had HIV.

Without sounding dumb what is a duo test? I am going to the clinic tomorrow for testing, the guy was also Jamaican.

The duo test is a forth generation test that looks for the p24 antigen. It's used for earlier detertion of hiv
