Doubt!

How are different types/groups of HIV formed?

1.Are they mutated versions of the earlier types ?
                                 or
2.They were already existing in nature but were discovered later.
                                 or
3. Are they formed from analysis/experiments of HIV going wrong in the lab. Is it possible to manipulate/modify HIV in the laboratory?
