10th week

My girlfriend informed me yesterday (4th Feb 2010) that she has been HIV+ since 2005. We had unprotected sex  (thrice) between 27th-30th November 2009. So, this is the 10th week. I plan on going for a test early next week. She says since her discovery of her status in 2005, she never took HIV medication because her CD4 has been up and the hospitals are aware she is not taking medication.

Now, i haven't had any related symptom. But, about 3rd week of December (i.e approx 3.5 weeks after exposure) I had diarrhea (with blood) that lasted a week until i took Augmentin. but this is not unusual for me. Loose stool and malaria have been normal occurences for me. Last week, I had flu after more than 2 weeks exposure to heavy dust at a construction site, and an infected colleague. I took basic Vitamin C (not the 500mg & higher) and it cleared within 2 days and I have been fine.

I tested negative to HIV in my last test in December 2008, over  year ago. Please what can I expect? If I test negative next week, would this be reliable? Is there any medication suitable for this phase that can help prevent the development of the virus?

my girlfriend says her ex knowingly had unprotected sex with her two years ago and never tested positive, and that she was optimistic i would test negative. But, you know, after making the mistake of not informing before exposing me, she might just be offering me hope to make me feel good.

I did a test using the Antec rapid self test kit yesterday (6th February 2010) and it came back negative. I couldn't wait until next week. moreover, i wanted to use this as a control test for the subsequent one at the end of February (14weeks).

Does that include lying HIV status after the sexual act? Avoiding testing?

Well she was a nude dancer, but all dancers have sex for money here in Mexico. Supposedly they get "tested" periodically, but I guess its all lies. After I come up with a seropositive test, I am sure I will sue the night club for prostitution and for false salubrity control, and probably will make it close.

Leo, stop this misinformation.

April, the only conclusive test is the one at the 3 month mark. If you test negative then , it is clear that you don't have hiv. Personally id be very angry at your girlfriend for not telling you.. around here its the law the disclose your status before embarking on a sexual encounter. I suggest you look into your area to see if they have similar legislation.

As far as i know there is no medicine to stop the development of the virus. Well there is PeP but that is meant to be taken 72 hrs (at the most) after exposure. Other than that, the other medications involve controlling the disease so as to maintain the patient's lifestyle. ie living normally.

I guess theres just people that are that lucky, I lost my verginity with an unkown HIV status girl and used a condom, we kissed(we both have braces) and I have developed all acute HIV symptoms, the more suggestive ones such as rash and swollen lymph nodes, also some mouth sores that are very uncommon to me. I got diagnosed with Typhoid Fever almost a month ago, but still, I seem to have pain on my lymph nodes, and I have a rash on my back. Its obvious that I am HIV +. I advise that there is not a thing such a s safe sex.
