had no open sores and I am not circumsized. The escort got angry with me when she realized I penetrated her vagina and pushed me out immediately hence my reason for saying 3-5 second exposure. She insisted i wear a condom
with me for 15 minutes. I spoke to my local doctors in Trinidad and they told me that I am not at risk and if so it is 99.99% chance of getting infected with HIV
to male transmission takes alot of exposures to actually happen
2. It was my first unsafe encounter.
3. High paid escorts are normally HIV free.
4. The viral load in vaginal secretions are generally low and not infectious.
5.the odds are in my favour as they have seen alot of patients who had full blown unprotected vaginal sex with HIV positive females at leat 10 times and have not gotten infected after being tested 3 months later.
What do you think? Should i get a test done on the 6th week after my exposure as the incident occurred on the 2 September 2009.
But Vance do you think I should go an do an HIV test on the 6th week? as i did my last one in March 2009 which was negative. I am very concerned as I am married and have not had any sex with my wife since the incident. do you think i should have sex with my wife as normal or wait and do the test. I am very scared!
Pradyuth I have read on this forum where Dr. HHH has said that no test needs to be done in a first time case like mine? I am a bit confused as to whom to believe as the Dr. HHH says no test needs to be done because of the extremely low risk, you are saying test at 3 months, Vance is agreeing with the local doctors. I am really confused as to how to proceed at this point? I am even more scared and worried now! God help me!!!!!
My personal opinion is that I would agree with the Dr's you have seen and with Dr.HHH. But it never hurts to have a 3 month test.
I am pretty confident that if you posted in the Dr's forum Dr.HHH and/or Dr.Hook would probably say no testing needed or test at 6-8 weeks. but I can't say for certain, just going off the hundreds of answers I have read from them. So if you want there true opinion pay and post in the experts forum.
Or just go with what your Dr's have told you.
Is your situation worth a test...error on the side of caution...yes.
Find one of the approved HIV tests that will give you a conclusive negative test earlier than 3 months. Click on the name of the test and read their approval.
Yes a 3 month test will give a conclusive result. Never said anything other then that.
I am not going to argue with you on what I have said in this guys post and you should stick to your own post.
so you all are saying that it is ok to do an HIV test on the 6th week or after the 6th week? Also what do you think are the odds of this 3-5 second exposure of getting infected with HIV? Do you all really think I should explain my situation to Dr. HHH and get an answer from him or should i stop worrying and just get tested on the 6th week for re-assurance basis that the result will come out negative, and I can finally but this ephisode behind me and live onwards in a positive manner. I await your advice people?
3 months is when you can obtain a conclusive negative test result. There are no tests marketed or approved to give a conclusive negative test any earlier.
The incident occurred on the 2nd of September. Do you all think I can go and tested on the 30th September and get an accurate result. That is exactly 28 days which is 4 weeks. Also do you all think i should really be worrying my brains out like this? I am terrified and cant get this 3-5 second exposure off my mind. Oh another Dr. called me today and told me that I really dont need testing as if the woman escort was infected, the infection normally lies deep inside the vagina and that is why it takes multiple exposure with a female HIV infected person to pass it on to a man. The Dr. Also said that a 3-5 second exposure just would not be possible as the vaginal secretions have to be alot and can nly enter through open sores and throught the penile tract (Urethra).Should i believe this local Dr who has been practising in trinidad for over 20 years and has HIV patients that he takes care off? I await your comments as I am still confused if testing is really nessecary?
I dont understand your answer "NO" ? my question to you all are as follows :
1. Should I do a blood test for HIV on the 4th week after the incident?
2. Should I just stop worrying as the risk that the doctors are telling me are so low that i dont even need test for HIV?
3.SHould i listen to TEAK and wait 3 months?
4. Have you all ever heard of someone being infected by HIV after having a 3-5 second unprotected vaginal exposure for the first time and not multiple exposures?
The standard advice on this forum for ANYBODY who had a risk (such as yourself) is to get a test at 6 weeks (optional) and then a final test at 3 months.
There is really no point in testing earlier than 6 weeks, or at more frequent intervals, as you will undoubtedly just be exposed to more anxiety over getting tested.
At 6 weeks or later, the tests are very accurate. However, they are not officially recognized as having sufficient accuracy for a conclusive result, either by the test manufacturers or the FDA, as Teak indicated. This is why this forum recommends a mandatory test at 3 months (or later) for a conclusive result.
If you post on the doctors forum, they are likely to give you a different answer than those that you will receive here, one that is more in line with what your own doctors have told you. However, that is because they are qualified to do this. On this forum, we give standard advice to anyone who has had a risk, even a EEEEEEEENTSY WEEEEENTSY risk such as yours, and cannot deviate from that.
So, have a test at 6 weeks, the result will almost certainly be negative and should help you alleviate your anxiety. Follow up with a final 3 months test, which has only a remote chance of changing from negative to positive.
