tests. And we also know that DNA PCR is not an approved test. But you have to understand that there is a reason why this test affered by most of the laboratories. And HIV
antibodies develop within some time frame. My question is just for the facts available. In my case, A confirmation Western Blot was also done which was negative too.
You need to understand the questions. From other posts, i can fiure out that you are against DNA PCR Tests and you are not hepling people with their question on PCR tests. You should understand that we are not promoting these tests.
You should understand that anyone who posts here is very anxious and not in a good mental state. He or she would be very tensed while waiting for the results and as a good human being, we should just try to answer their questions instead of having debates and biased opinions.
Anyways, I got a part of my questions answer from H. Hunter Handsfield, M.D.:
"time frame for use of the PCR test to detect HIV infection ...............................The idea is to diagnose infections before antibody develops, typically a few days to 2-3 weeks after exposure--and even then, only in much higher risk situations than yours. At 40 days (6 weeks) you should have just had a standard abtibody test."
You need to understand that PCR-DNA tests are not used to diagnose HIV they are used to monitor the progression of HIV in those that are known to be infected and to monitor their progession on HAART.
at 28 days if you have the hiv 1/2 antibody test AND the pcr dna test,if you are positive at least one of these will show up. Either you have the genetic material in your blood (after 72 hours since exposure) or you have already sero-converted (in exceptional cases this can take up to 3 months) in which case antibodies will show up.
the incidence of false positive on pcr dna is quite high which is why it is not a favoured diagnostic tool. However it does have a purpose. It is costly though but still will detect the genetic material of the hiv virus in your blood after a certain window since exposure .
There are many many doctors who will tell you that if these tests are neg at 4 weeks there is virtually no chance they will change thereafter.
I tested at 4 (dna /hiv 1/2), 6(hiv 1/2) and 12(hiv 1/2) and was negative all the way through , thank God and thanks to the advice from people on here.
I would advise anyone else to do the same as me. Each negative test is a step towards the alleviation of anxiety.
