4 MONTHS +VE ELISA AND INDETERMINATE WESTERN BLOT

Dear All,

I thank you advance for your kind response on my HIV concren.
Here my story begins, i had some oral exposure(got a blow job and i fingered 2 girls) on First week of August. After 35 days of my exposure i have done some HIV tests as shown below all come -ve or non rctive.
1. HIV - 1 - RNA QUANTIFICATION BY REAL TIME PCR
2. HIV - P24 ANTIGEN DETECTION,SERUM BY ELFA
3. RETROVIRAL ANTIBODIES

Afterwards i have repeated my test at 4 months marks from my exposure(plse see below) , My elisa came +ve and western blot was "indeterminate".
1. ELISA
2. WESTERNBLOT

I am really worried and looking for some valid advise from any of the experts in this forum.

Is there any chance to test -ve on my next HIV test ?
How much is the scope ?
Is it 50 out of 100 or 10 out of 100?

I beg you for your kind helps.

Regards

Aadi

Dude, slow down and think ahbout it logically, if you had HIV your body would have produced antibodys by now - 7 months is aggges. It just would have, if it  hadn't produed antibodys for whatever reason and HIV was freely destroying your body without any resistance you would be EXTREMLEY ILL- You'd probably have a really low CD4 and have aids! You are not ill or anything so to me that logically along with your tests means your fine

But dude, you didnt even have a risk. You need to relax and accecpt you are o.k- you ARE O.K- YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV, YOU DONT YOU DONT YOU DONT. Chill man!

Hey,

I know this can be very confusing and stressing. it's happening almost the same to me. I got a Elisa test positive, and a western blot negative. In almost every case the HIV status for that would be negative. But the kept testing, it's really annoying. I will have my third western blot this monday.

I've had 3 reactive elisa, 1 nonreactive western blot, 3 reactive elisa and 1 indeterminate western blot. My sexual partners for the 2009 were tested when I realized about the reactive elisa, and they were negative. it's really stressful, maybe I'm seroconverting, maybe not.

I will also have some test for lupus, what it can cause troubles with the elisa and western blot. But my infectious diseases doctor can read the future and she says that the next western blot will be reactive.

It's annoying when you find this kind of people who can not be serious and wait until the results, you know... it's your hiv status, not if you got a cold. So, the chief of the laboratory talked to me, because she was shocked with my two western blots. The first one they did not even think was mine, but with the second I felt her not to incline to the hiv possibility. She just tell me to get a test into a month.

Well, this year has been a hell. Since january I have been stressed by this issued. I know how you can feel. Maybe I had a high risk situation, but the strange fact is that the two person who I had unsafe sex with the last year are negative.

Please, keep me posted about what happen with you.

One band is negative, two is indterminate, three is positive and you have to have had a risk and you haven't.

· Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to action by MedHelp. Conclusive negative results or a no-risk situation will be based up the criteria MedHelp’s doctors. Action will be taken as follows:
* After excessive posting, a warning will be issued by MedHelp
* Continuing to post regarding the negative result / no risk situation will result in a 3 day suspension
* Continuing to post upon your return will result in a permanent ban.

Hi All

I thank you million times for your kind support you have extended to me during these days.
I have a happy news as well as a bad news ..
I am really in a trouble now .. I will explain it here ..

I know my exposure was no risky or law risk , i really agree with you, but as per the instruction of my infectious diseases doctor, i had a test at 4 months (western blot), one band (p66) was present and the result came back indeterminate.

Then he told me to re test after 2 months.

This is the good news - With out the knowledge of my doctor  I went one multi speciality hospital  (After 7 months of exposure)and asked them to perform  ELISA RAPID and ELISA STANDARD tests, both came back negative. I was so happy when i receive the email from them.

Now the problem begin ... After getting the results i forward my result to my doctor and told about the story. But instead of being happy he was shouting at me that "how do u know the test you have to do" "how can u decide the which are suitable for you" etc ... I told him that i am aware that ELISA is a standard test for rectify HIV antibodies, also i have completed 7 months, so that i need a relief from this pain ..

But he made me more crazy ..... He told that , since your western blot at 4 months result is indeterminate, negative ELISA is not enough and you have to go for westernblot and it should be come back as negative. or else in future there is a possibility of being positive on ELISA.

I am shocked and all you and the sitesare saying that 3 months negative elisa rapid or elisa standard
is enough to confirm the status ... But my doctor is saying different thngs ..

Then he ask me to perform Westernblot,p24 antigen, viral load qualitative and quantitative ...

I dont know what to do .... This doctor is working in a goverment hospital as a department head, I dont know why he says like this, may be for commission from the lab?? I really dont know ...

This is my problems now ...

1. I had 4 months western blot indeterminate (p66) band, but 7 months elisa negative for rapid and standard test. do u want me to wait for the western blot results in order to make sure my status? (This is the doctors opinion, so that i am asking here).
2. My doctor told there are many types of elisa testing (method), also he told , since i am tested western blot indeterminate, if i test any other hospital (different metod of elisa (if it is there) it may come as positive). Do u have any idea about different method of elisa testing?
3. Do u think he is cheating me for oly getting money ?

Please help me ... Last but not least .. plse dont banned me from this site .. because of this doctor , i am really worried .. i have no options ..

As part of regular medical check up in my company (office) i have to undergo for a complete medical check up by this month  including HIV tests (elisa), so that i am worried this much. As per my doctors opinion if my company hospital is using some other method of ELISA, it may come as positive !!!!! since i am working in a gulf country, i may have to leave the country . I will loose my job ... This is my life issue ...

Please help me ....

I am going to re test by next week. It is my 7th month after possible exposure.
I do hope this will state my real status ... I will update you as soon as i receive it .
Thanks for your great support you have extended during these days........
Also i would like to ask you about a rapid HIV test ... Is it really conclusive?
If yes, i will do the rapid test, Elisa and Western Blot as well ... Is it correct?

Thanks for your comments

You can test now and it will be conclusive but 100% you are negative as receiving oral and fingering is no risk.

The doubts and what if thoughs are dangerous for the mind's health.I am  going over a similar situation. Tested with Elisa after 7 days--> negative, 37 days tested with PCR DNA and elissa ---> negative, 4 month tested with elissa and also negative.the worst things is the more I read about hiv signs the more I fell them. I will be 6 month in two weeks. Hopefully that last test will easy my soul.

Thanks for your response .I cannot have a test here in this country (Middle east). If i test +ve, There is no excuse, i may have to leave this place. I can do the test only in India during my next visit on February 2010. Even India, it is very difficult to find a doctor in order to have an HIV test.In India, Living with HIV is horrible.

I can ask the doctors forum, but if they ask me to test, i cant do it now.
I am totally helpless.............

I'm not an expert, but I suggest that you take it to the doctor's forum on this site, and meanwhile find a different doctor in your country and retest now, not in two months.   Anyone on here will tell you that you did not have a risk and could not possibly be infected from the exposure that you are describing.

Good luck with everything.

About one dot - My doctor told me in that way. But it was a western blot. He tole me that one dot/band is reactive and it could not say as a +ve result and advice me to re test after 2 months.
It is true that i have tested positive elisa and indeterminate western blot. I dont know about the quality of the test or it cause of my seroconvertion.

To be frank, i was totally a big "0" about HIV before. I really thought the chance of infecting HIV only through vaginal and anal sex. So that i ask that girl not to use a condom for a blow job. That was my 1st mistake. Second mistake was the fingering of 2 different girls with a small cut ,While fingering i dont notice that cut.

May be i can add some more oral sex incident with the same girls (sucking their breasts etc), but i never put my dick inside of any p............. it is true that i never had any unprotected/protected anal or vaginal sex with any girls.

About my wife - Since i am working in a gulf country, They have done a complete medical check up on October/2009(not because of any hiv issue) in order to come  here. All the test were -ve with out a medical test nobody can come here.

She is innocent .. I am the culprit ...
It was my first experience with call girls. It happend in a bad moment/day.
In my college life i had so much of affiars and so (But there was no vaginal sex involved in my life other than my wife).

It may be because of the problem of lab or the technition who has done this test.
I do wish to belive the same. But i dont know the truth, it will know only after 2 months .........

If i really infected, i dont really know how to manage the situation ...

And your wife is HIV negative?  How do you know?

And you had no risky behavior prior to your no-risk "exposure" 5 months ago?

Check your post on 7 December - you said you had just tested and there was one dot on the test.

What you are saying is that you are just now seroconverting after 5 months from something that no one in the documented free world has ever claimed was a risk in the 25 plus years that HIV has been around.  One amazingly highly unlikely scenario after another.

Maybe you should go to the HIV International forum on this site and have one of the doctors there sort this out for you.

About sexual intercourse with my wife
No, I had no intercourse with my wife after my possible exposure on first week of August/2009.
About the dot – It was not a tri dot test , it was ELISA and Western Blot .
As I mention, I have done all these tests under supervision of a doctor (Infectious disease).
It is true that the test at 35 days mark was –ve and test at 4 months ELISA +ve and Western Blot “Indeterminate”.
I never had any vaginal or Anal intercourse with anybody other than my wife. I have been engaged only unprotected oral sex and fingering.
Last 5 months or from August 5 /2009, I never had any intercourse (even oral) with my wife.

According to your post from 7 December, you're antibody test was negative not positive. You said you only had one dot (TriDot) on the test and that is a NEGATIVE result, as the one dot represents the control of the test and insures that it was working correctly - if you were positive, you would have had two dots show up.  You should never have had a Western Blot.
