I'll give you what the HIV counselor told me when I first got tested at four weeks in her exact words:

"MOST people flip (as in, flip from HIV negative to positive) by 6 weeks. I have once seen someone's HIV test show positive antibodies after being exposed three weeks prior. But everyone's different. Four weeks is a decent indication that you are PROBABLY not HIV positive, but a test at 12 weeks will seal the case. If you can't wait that long, you can come for a test at 8 weeks and it should be conclusive enough."
