40 day test

I took a hiv  test 12 days after possible exposure and it came back negative. I then took one at 40 days and also came back negative. I am still very worried, how accurate is the test at 40 days?

Thank you for responding to my posting. My possible exposure was I had intercourse with this guy I did not know very well and I had drank too much and I don't remember if we used a condom. We had sex for less than ten minutues. I know that probablly doesn't matter but I wanted to add it. Thanks again

I've read a response to this question on the expert forum. According to the doctor, a 4 week test is about 90% accurate, it means that your negative test result is unlikely to change. His response is based on his personal working experience. However, you need to retest at 12 weeks to be 100% sure.

Maybe you should have asked Teak and Lizzie to assess your risk first. In most cases I've read on the forum, testing is not necessary.
