4th generation combo test

I got tested in week 5 after potential exposure with the determine combo test (antigenop24+ antibodyHIV1/2) and the result was negative. In a 3rd generation ELISA test two days later the result was also negative. Can I expect changes in the result? I will test again tomorrow, 9 weeks after exposure

thanks a lot for your help

Marco

of course you can, your results are excellent, however if you want a 100% conclusive result then test again at 12 weeks/3 Months. All the best.

Based on the answer given to "mastodon" can I consider my results good?i.e.: not likely to change?

Thanks Teak,

I guess that the results are in the good direction and I hope that they are unlikely to change?

3 months post exposure is when you can obtain your conclusive negative test result.

All,

I got my Oral-quick result: negative
So this is the testing record:

ELISA - blod @ 31days - Negative
Determine combo (an p24+ab HIV1/2) - blod @ 34 days - Negativre
Oral-quick - saliva @ 66 days - Negative

What's your advice? is there a good chance that I am OK? can I move on from this?

thanks for lisening and for your help

The DUO is around 99% conclusive at 4 weeks, however NO Hiv test is 100% conclusive until 12 weeks post-exposure.All the best.

The HIV antibody/p24 antigen Duo Test is an excellent, accurate and inexpensive HIV test that reliably detects HIV infection that occurred just 28 days prior to the test. This HIV test is known as the 'Duo' because it tests for both HIV antibodies as well as the 'HIV P24 antigen'. The HIV p24 antigen is a core HIV viral protein which becomes detectable at approximately 10 days post exposure, peaks at 16 days or so and then remains at high level for 8 to 10 weeks post exposure. It will then fluctuate over the rest of the course of the illness. HIV p24 antigen is extremely useful in combination with an HIV antibody test in determining early on whether an individual has been infected with HIV. The HIV DUO test is extremely accurate at 28 days and is now the test recommended by the new UK Guidelines on HIV testing 2008.

hi Lizzie, thanks for your answer. How long does it take to generate antibodyes? is the antigen p24 always detected before antibody production?

Cheers,
