5 Weeks

End of July I had unprotected vaginal sex with a woman numerous times over three days. She was a friend of a friend, just hit it off but now worried.


Two week after incident developed a slight fever (under 100) and some aches.  Gone in two days and since then had nasal drip, headaches, slight sore throat, and what seems to me as swollen glands/nodes in right groin and left armpit.  Groin are tender and hurt to touch.  Armpit swelling subsided a few days ago.

Question is would ARS last more than three weeks and appear like that?  I have a test next week which is at 5 1/2 weeks is that sufficient?  Just got worried reading all the boards and all, but know i cant test before 4 weeks.

ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

oh dear!  sounds like you have read about "all" the symptoms on the internet too!  

a test at 6-8 weeks will give you a good indication of your status...but follow that up with a test at 3 months for a conclusive result.

Will do.  Ill push the test back a week to get at 6 1/2.

ALso if it was ars do the symptoms last for three weeks?  And does it sound more like just a cold?

sounds like a cold to me, along with waaaaaaaaaaay toooooooooooooo much searching the internet for "symptoms".  read some of the posts here...EVERYBODY has the same exact symptoms as you do.  hhhhuuuummmmmmm :)

Anxiety will get the best of you if you let it. The more thought you put into this the worst you will feel. Try and relax and by the way expect a negative result.

Went for a checkup on my swollen glands friday, said my throat hurt.  Culture came back with Strep.

Question is coudl you have Strep and ARS at the same time.  Or is it probably just strep.

no you just have strep did you talk to your dr about your fear here?

Yes I did said he will test when i go in on the 9th. He knows I worry so more of releaving my fears.

Even asked if taken medicine would mess up my test etc?  Have to cover every angle.

He is.  Also said its possible to have Strep and be going through ARS, not likely but possible.

I guess only a 6 week neg will sooth my thoughts.

Hey dude, I had unprotected sex with a female and I fell ill a week later, my illness lasted around 2 weeks and I was convinced I had contracted HIV. I got tested at 4 weeks and tested negative. Then I fell ill again recently which made me think it was HIV. I just went and got tested again (3 months post incident) and my results came back negative again. All I can say is that the symptoms mean nothing (which is probs what everybody keeps telling you anyway) as I was pretty much convinced I had contracted it. Usually when i'm ill I can shake it off within a few days because i'm generally quite healthy, but because I had this illness for so long lead me to worry. Hope this helps!

You are ok dude all of your test will be negative hang in there I know your in a rough spot now but things will get brighter you will see

Just as an update: Took zithromax for strep and still sore throat.  Dont think it worked.  

Going in for text on monday.  Not curing strep has me more worried.

did you take it all?  There can be resistant strains of strep to zithromax it is the most prescribed antibiotic and hence faisl to cure some infections in some people.  If your symptoms of strep continue go back to the doctor they can give you Bactrim or Biaxin also active against strep.  I highly doubt HIV is the cause of your symptoms.  Get you six week negative and put this out of your head, confirmat ninety days and you are done.  Good luck, I wish you all the best.

Yes took it all.  Headache, slight groin and armpit pain too all that time.  Guess I can only wait.  I ask doc to test for Mono.

My doc will do all test for it monday so within a week I shall know and repost the results.

Just as an update.  Had to have tooth surgery for a sist so test not done yet.  This tuesday is a definite.  8 Weeks since possible risk.

Still have pain in groin and armpit. Been 6 weeks with this.

Will post again when I know teh results.

Update again:  Had a Home Access test done at 86 days came back negative.  Should I test again in six months or is this enough.
