5 weeks post rapid test results

by lolashira, Nov 10, 2009 08:18PM
I had unprotected vaginal sex two times with a man (I am a woman). Prior to intercourse we both said we were clean, but now I realize how unsmart it is to trust that.
At the 5 week mark I had a rapid HIV test done where they drew blood from my fingertip. My questions are: How accurate is my 5 week negative and should I go back for more testing.

Test at 3 months that is when your results are conclusive.  But the 5 week negative gives you a good indication of your status.

OF COURSE you should test again ! ! !  the current guideline states that in order to get a conculsive test result...you must test 3 months post exposure.

Lizzie,
Thanks for your response to my question... I am extraordinarily anxious :/ but was mostly curious of whether or not the rapid test was a good indication at all.

One other thing, via testing I was diagnosed with the flu... when they say hiv symptoms are flu-like... do you actually get the flu?

a rapid test is an antibody test and is reliable.

not "the flu"

Sorry, I didn't write that the right way. I started getting flu symptoms, went to the doc where they tested me for the flu, and I have the flu.

This would have nothing to do with being symptomatic of HIV, would it? Or, when one does experience symptoms, do they actually get the flu?

do they actually get the flu?  once again...it's not "the flu"
