6 MONTHS TEST IS CONCLUSIVE.

people listen;
I have seen more than 10 Drs since my exposure in 5 months ago
ALL suggest me do not trust to 2,6,12 weeks Test ,ELISA  and whatever methods . . .
Also all websites mentione 6 months test should be done for a conclusive result ...
I cant realize how dr HHH and people in this forume insist that even 6 weeks test is conclusive...
Dr HHH believes whoever even has got all symptons but has neg 6or 12 weeks test is clean, that is not realiable... PLZZzZz GET TESET IN 6 MONTHS POINT...

allthough I recieved  5 months  and 5 days Neg Test but still my Dr told me to retest in 6 months point. . . I have got all symptons , a healthy man can not have coated tounge or headache without any reason.
Dr HHH jist tells , you are infected , then what the hell is my proplem!!!!!

so plz get tested in 6 MONTHS POINT EXACTLY

Did I word it incorrectly? No. But I suppose I should have gone further in-depth with this issue. You are correct; people that suffer from cancer, usually an advanced stage of cancer, that are treated with severe chemo therapy do have a chance that their HIV test will appear negative, although the person is actually positive.

As for viral infections delaying seroconversion, I recall reading this from a website a while ago during a google search on false negatives. This viral infection that suppresses the conversion will have to be a rare one, and a strong one at that, probably directly attacking the immune system. I do agree with you that it is in no way a proven fact, as I never expressed it as a fact, just as a possibility (keyword), but I’m not here to argue about the semantics.

Suffice it to say that the doctor will know, (at least should know), that his patient is suffering from a malady that can affect the outcome of the test. Also, I’m not here to lie to an already sensitive person, I’m here to help in any way possible, and in this case, I just wanted to reassure (without being a professional), that his prior HIV tests are (very high probability), correct, and a 6 month test seems pointless to me, but a great reassurance tool for a person seeking peace of mind.

Stress can cause innumerable symptoms all relating to HIV, heck HIV symptoms are subjective in their own way as not everyone experiences the same symptoms, and currently there is no set symptoms for HIV.

I just need to clarify this thing you wrote - "If you suffer from a sort of cancer, or any viral diseases, it could be possible, but unlikely, that the test gives a false negative".

Did you wrong word it or did some health care professional told you this. I have not heard of any other viral illness barring Hep C delay seroconveriosn and that too is not a proven fact.

As far as suffering from cancer delayion serconversiosn goes, you are equally wrong there as well. From what we gather from health care professionals, it has to be late stage cancer or extensive chemotherapy treatment that and infected person is undergoing which can cause delay in antibody production and subsequent detection.

I request you to word your ideas with much care as this is a very sensitive issue for folks living out horrors of their lives on this forum.

This information you derived from different doctors is only a safety measure in order for the doctors to not be sued if the test, for a very rare reason came back negative, but you were actually positive. If you do a little google search you will come up with conclusive results. In most cases a modern HIV test is 95% + accurate by three weeks, and 99% accurate by 4 weeks.  If you suffer from a sort of cancer, or any viral diseases, it could be possible, but unlikely, that the test gives a false negative. If you think about it, 6 months really isn’t 100% conclusive as all tests have a chance for error. Now your symptoms seem to be attributable to stress and anxiety, both of which can cause headaches, diarrhea, swollen glands, thrush, tingling sensations, night sweats, and much more. Any healthy human being can suffer from these symptoms, and more likely than not, you are suffering from anxiety.

Take your test if you need further reassurance for a peaceful mind, but I don’t find it necessary. Suffice it to say that it will most likely be negative.

Dr. Bob actually has HIV and he says 3 months is conclusive except for people with compromised immune systems i/e: on chemotherapy or needle drug users. The good people at aidsmeds.com will tell you the same thing.

If you ask any positive person, he will tell you that he tested positive few weeks after his last possible exposure.

Those who test negative anytime after three months of the last contact, will test negative again at six months. Their six month test is unnecessary. However, if you need that degree of "proof", do it and write back to us like the thousands of people who retest at 6 months and get another negative result.  Even severe anxiety won't prevent your body from producing detectable antibodies within the first three months.

WHO which is a UN subsidary also says that window period is 14 days. Now, go figure. By the way, you didn't answer whether your doc was a GP or hiv specialist

1.You can't indicate HIV with the help of symptoms
2. Your enlarged lymph nodes could have 100 causes not necessarily HIV
3. FDA is the ultimate governing agency when it comes to guidelines for HIV, it states 3 month's conclusive for some one with a normal immune system.

Where are you from ?
Bangladesh, Uganda, Zambia ?

The guideline states 3 months is conclusive and all you forum users please don't freak out reading posts like this, understand that there's a logical reasoning to support the 12 week's being conclusive.

No one needs to test further after 3 months.

the issue of window period has probably been discussed like a million times here in these forums. And i believe that it has long been a settled issue that 12/13 weeks test is conclusive. it won't be difficult to find doctors who'll tell you that you need 6 months test to be sure. Why? Because most doctors don't specialize in hiv and most havent even seen a single hiv patient. and as far as most websites saying that 6 months is needed, i dont know which sites you've been browsing. You've probably been looking at outdated material. most sites ive read says that 13 weeks is conclusive.

dear mitm,
there are n numbers of viruses n other things that can cause white tongue .Headache I am not writing because it can be mere anxiety.
6 months are needed only in case of immuno compromised stages like last stage of cancer or on medicines after organ transplant etc.
so if a person is not having these problems then 3 month or 13 weeks is conclusive.
In medicine nothing is 100%  becuase for everything there are  exceptions.
so the bottom line here is 13 weeks conclusive.Normally our body immune system is such that it can not wait for antibody production. If it finds a virus in body it will start fighting and produce antibodies. It takes some time so the body will have detectable level of virus for  the tests to measure it.
For you information the average time to seroconvert is 22 days.
So for me 13 weeks is equal to done with testing
I am not a expert here so the above are only my personal opinion.
good luck and be well.

you always have a choice to get youself tested as many time as you wish, even after 6 months too, 9 months, 12 months, 18 months and so on.

Immune system of every normal and healthy person produces detectable amount of antibodies between 6 and 12 weeks, or even earlier. Six months are those very very few, probably on chemotherapy kind of drugs.

If you are a healthy person, its time for you to Woooo Hooooo if you receive your 12 weeks test conclusive report "Negative", period. This is not the opinion of Dr HH, but Dr Bob and Dr K also have the same opnion, in line with CDC.
