8 week negative, new symptoms after test

I had unprotected anal sex with a man. (I was on the bottom) I'm aware I made a HORRIBLE choice. He did not ejaculate in me, but I know that does not really matter.  Two days after my tongue turned white.  It was freaking me out because I read this can be an early sign of HIV, so I went to the doctor.  He said he didn't know what it was and gave me antibiotics, but nothing changed.  The whiteness never went away and soon after my throat started feeling sore.  I went to another doctor who said I had a bacterial infection.  I asked her to check for HIV and at the 4 week mark it came back negative. (I know this is very early to be tested for HIV so I was still feeling anxious)  4 weeks later my throat really hadn't felt any better and one morning I woke up with what felt like swolleness under my chin so I went to another doctor and asked to be checked out about the white tongue and HIV.   The thrush test came back negative even though my tongue was very white and the HIV test at 8 weeks came back negative too. If the thrush test was wrong an I did have thrush could that be a sign of a week immune system and mean it would take me a longer to time to develop antibodies?  Is an 8 week test reliable?  I'm concerned that because my lymph nodes did not feel swollen until the day I went to the doctor that that might have been the day I started to seroconvert and an HIV antibody test would have missed antibodies.  Is this possible/likely? My neck is stiff also and I'm now at the 10 week mark since exposure and I'm getting really anxious about my test changing from an 8 week negative.  Has anyone known of an 8 week test changing?

An 8 week blood test is great....really great!

But you had a real risk, but even so, if you would post in the doctors forum they'd throw statistics at you...and statistically speaking your chance of having been infected ...not your risk...is low .

12 weeks is what you need to slam the door on this, but 8 weeks is still great.

Next time...well...I don't need to tell you what to do next time......

STOP worrying. you have had a risk and you have tested at 8 weeks and it is negative.

A 8 week negative is highly unlikely to change so calm down and get your conclusive result at 12 weeks!

USE CONDOMS for penetrative sex and you will remain hiv negative!

Good luck!!!!

You did have a high risk. Yes I have seen people test positive after 8 weeks reason for the 3 month conclusive test.

Thank you, I'm praying that my symptoms are not related to HIV, although I have also tested negative for other STIs and mono/strep, etc..  which is making me nervous as those have been ruled out.  I know my 3 month test in 2 weeks will give me my conclusive result, but these next two weeks are going to be difficult.

Teak, I've been reading everything on this site and others, and it appears that most people have low risk/0 chance exposures (oral sex/protected sex), so obviously they all end up testing negative, but I consider mine a higher risk (unprotected anal).  I know 3 months is the conclusive test, but do you know of cases where people have tested positive after 8 week negative tests because I have also read literature that 6 week tests provide near 100% accuracy..

Symptoms or lack of will not tell you anything about your status. HIV has no specific symptoms. You can obtain your conclusive test result 3 months post exposure.

Relax ! The symptoms you mentioned, do not relate to ARS. Whiteness of the tongue alone is also not an HIV sysmtom. It is almost unlikely that your 8 weeks result would change otherwise, so believe your test report. It is highly reassuring. Repeat the test after a couple of weeks and collect your conclusive report which would not be different from why you have now

It is true that anal sex is the riskiest for those in bottom role, there is a very strong possibility that your partner was not an HIV +, therefore it brings your risk down, since you can not give something you do not have.

Having said that, take it as a "lesson learned". Never ever unprotected with anyone again.
