8 weeks HIV is conclusive but re confirm after 3 months

Hello all,

Just wanted to give a big hug and want to assure all you in the same boat as i was before.

Here is my original question and the answer given by Dr.EWH.

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/2091527?camp=27

I just tested again for HIV after my 8 week negative test result. It took me lot of time and courage to get tested again after 10 months. infact I am negative now too. What a great sigh of relief. Seems like I dodged a bullet here.  I was extremely nervous before the test. I showed the posting of Dr.EWH to the MD physician that i was talking to. He said he completely agree with Dr.EWH and said i can put all this fear behind after 8 week negative result. He said even though it is zero chance of turning positive after 8 weeks, he said instead of dying everyday with guilt and anxiety. Finally I agreed to test after 10 months . The last time I checked my status was after 8 weeks. Wanted to reassure everyone that If you get 8 weeks negative, you can breathe. But just check after 3 months and get rid of anxiety. Don't wait like me for 10 months with fear inside everyday.

Love.

Jai.

Hi, could you share the link where the CDC finally agrees with conclusive AG/AB test at 28 days?

Hey thanks for sharing your story, your words will help many I am sure.

For anyone reading this, the key thing to remember is that a 4th Generation Antibody / Antigen test is considered conclusive at 28 days post exposure, three months applies to older testing methods and as you pointed out, even that is ultra Conservative.

The difference with the 4th Gen Test is that it looks for a key part of the virus not just the bodies reaction to it, they have been used here in the UK for years, even the CDC in the USA now agrees to the 4 week testing guideline.

Best Wishes

James
