ACID FAST BACILLI - TB - HIV

A recent colonsocopy revealed that my wife had polyps which were infected with the Acid Fast Bacilli Mycrobacterium.  According to my wife the attending physician was rather alrmed when delivering the news, telling her that he had not seen anything like that in 20 years.  HE further told her that he would pass the results immediately to her GP and that she svhedule an appointmemt fo further follow up.

Her GP (a nurse practitioner) scheduled a TB test which proved to be negative.  At the visit to receive the results the NP juts gave the results of the test, but no mention of what could have caused the AFB in the first place.  My wife has been unusually quiet about the whole thing only discusiing it when I bring up the topic.  I on the othre hand have been very alarmed because of what I have read about the relationship between AFB, TB and HIV.

One more thing you out to know about 3 years ago my wife experienceed an HSV I infection.  IT as her first and I appeare to be the culprit.

Am I over worrying?  What could be the reason for the AFB?
