ARS fever - unsure

Hi,
If you coudl bear with me I just have a few questions.  My boyfriend recently went away and 3 weeks after he came back he got really sick.  I do get concerned with HIV and his symptoms were similar to ARS, he told me he didn't cheat and I want to believe him but the symptoms stressed me out.  After reading this website and others it seems that ARS follows a pretty distinct pattern i.e they come, they stay, they go.  His symptoms went like this:

Day 1 & 2 - really high fever and chills, muscle aches - went to ER diagnosed with an upper respiratory tract infection

Day 3, 4, 5 -  muscle aches, tired, lethargic, blocked sinuses, mucus, sore throat BUT NO FEVER

Day 6 -12 Cough with no other symptoms

I know it sounds like I am being paranoid (I know I am) but the one question I really want to have answered is:

If this were ARS would the fever have stayed the whole time during ARS or does ARS usually have fever first for a couple of days which then subsides and other symptoms stay and then a cough  that lingers on?

I would be soooo grateful if somebody with some medical knowledge would reply and tell me if this is a normal presentation of ARS.

Yes if one has ARS the fever would last from 1-2 weeks with all the other symptoms. Symptoms or lack of symptoms will never tell you your HIV status. The only way to know you status is by testing.

Thanks for your advice but all I really want to know is during ars would fever be present throughout the symptomatic phase? So if all symptoms last for a week so would the fever. Or does the fever break early but the other symptoms stay?

If he said he will test and you are so concerned, only have protected sex with him till he tests.  Its that simple.

Plus, he is only saying that he'll test to shut me up. He's adamant nothing happened!

He will but it's too early and the anxiety is hard on me, that's why i was asking whether it sounded like a cold or ars. The fact that the fever didn't last long but the rest of the symptoms did makes me more hopeful that it wasn't ars

Do the rest of the experts agree with vance?

If you are concern, ask him to do on HIV test.

Teak, do you agree with Vance?  I know symptoms are unreliable but does this presentation of illness, with the fever only lasting 2 days and the rest of the symptoms continuing for a week or so until all he had was a dry cough for a few days in isolation, sound like ARS?

Really? You're sure? That's great news.

From what I have read it seemed to say that if you get ars and you have fever it lasts the duration just like the other symptoms.... It just wasn't very clear, so I had some doubt.

His fever would nto have just lasted 2 days.
