Hi forum, i have some questions with regards to ars. I had a mouth ulcer on my left gum last thursday and i dont know if i should really worry about that. Then Saturday following that, i had fever
in the afternoon (>39C) accompanied by headache and some muscle pains and skin sensitivity. I also had some cough and cold, but just a mild one. Sunday following that, i still had fever
viral infection and i just have to give myself some rest the next few days. so its monday now... no more high fever, just some occasional pain at the back of my head and skin sensitivity (when you touch it, it hurts... just like sunburn feeling)
so ARS crossed my mind... back tracking the last 2-6 weeks, i had sex with my one partner (we are gay) and it always involved condom, no history of it getting broken whatsoever because both of us are crazy when it comes to hiv. i know he's been with some other guys, well, he claims he'd been safe all time. the only unsafe thing we do is oral sex, but penetrative sex between us always involves protection.
so what im curious about is, do ARS symptoms come all together or 1 by 1? im curious about my one mouth ulcer, then the 2day bout of High fever plus the muscle pains.
i checked other signs, no pharyngitis, no rashes, no swollen lymph nodes (or i just dont know), ive been eating a lot, and watching my weight, no changes on it, i feel better now compared to the last two days.
checking my temp time to time, i get low grade fever some time of the day, probably because im still recovering, but most of the day its less than 37.5C.
is this ARS or some other viral infection (flu perhaps?) and im just paranoid
Classic ARS symptoms are very high fever and rash on trunk -torso and on limbs. They come all at once and last between 4days to 2weeks.If you always use condoms when engaging in penerative sex and the protection has never failed you then you never had a risk. You can,t transmit hiv via oral sex.Its only an unsafe practise for other STD,s.
thanks for that. prior to this i checked my temp again, 37.3c. not even considered as fever anymore. probably what bugged me is the presence of apthous ulcer and a high fever. but then again, ARS comes all in one, and my mouth ulcer came days before i had my fever. with regards to the skin sensitivity, its probably because of the fever i had and due to the viral infection i caught (which im assuming its not hiv)
i was reading back about risks on oral sex, and most of you experts here, if not all, stick to the fact that is low/zero risk to hiv transmission. for STD's, its settled that you can get one through that, but HIV wise, seems like oral sex posts not much big risk to contracting one.
hope my anxiety goes down now... you've been a great help!
There is no debate (among experts) about the HIV risks associated with oral sex. The risk is so low that almost nobody who cares for HIV infected patients has ever had a patient believed to have been infected that way. Among experts, it's a semantic issue about using terms like "no risk" and "very low risk". There is no difference between my or Dr. Hook's use of "low risk" and other experts' "no risk".

"And oral sex is basically safe sex -- completely safe with respect to HIV and although not zero risk for other STDs, the chance of infection is far lower than for unprotected vaginal or anal sex. Please educate yourself about the real risks. If you stick with oral sex and condom-protected vaginal or anal sex, you have no HIV worries and very little worry about other STDs. " DR HANSFIELD
"I am sure you can find lots of people who belive that HIV is transmitted by oral sex, but you will not find scientific data to support this unrealistic concern..." DR HOOK
"HIV is not spread by touching, masturbation, oral sex or condom protected sex."- DR. HOOK
in the public HIV Prevention forum of MedHelp, TEAK and the other moderators maintain that oral sex in all forms is a zero risk activity. Would you agree with this assessment?
I TOTALLY AGREE / DR GARCIA
The observation on thousand and thousand of observations is that HIV is not spread by oral sex (of any sort). DR. HOOK
"With regard to the question you ask, I will repeat, as I’ve said more times than I can think- there are NO credible cases in which persons have acquired HIV through performance of oral sex- none!!. The chance that you will be the first is ridiculously low. You are more likely to be hit by lightening while reading my reply to you. DR HOOK
"HIV is not spread by masturbation, through oral sex, through kissing or other casual contact." DR HOOK
"There is no credible evidence that HIV is spread through oral sex, with or without the presence of cuts or blood in the persons mouth."- DR HOOK
"Oral sex. there is no evidence that HIV is spread through giving or receiving oral sex"- DR HOOK
