I'm having a scare after a potential exposure. I currently am sick. fever between 99 and 101, Runny Nose/nasal drip, headache and slight soar throat and i cough up phlegm occasionally. The symptoms mirror many of the ars symptoms but they don't include the rash or the diarrhea and vomiting. I know you cant base hiv infection solely on Symptoms but does this sound like ars to you. The exposure was 11 days ago.

Anxious and nervouse
help me out

thank you for the link, i don't think my concerns are emotional ones though.

I was just asking what teak meant by saying "How do you know if you have had an exposure? The answer to that never changes."

My other question regarding claritine D and symptoms is not an emotional question.

Im merely saying my cold is basically gone after a day, claritine also helped rid me of my symptoms yesterday. Does that sound like plausible Acute Retroviral Syndrome?

Thanks for your time

Yea i did ask, i have always been asking since the first scare i had. The thing is most college students don't get tested at all and when they answer no they don't have anything i always feel as if they don't know.

My roommate has never been tested and he tells people he has nothing when he hooks up. Sadly he even does so without a condom.

I do use lube but i think i have a unique problem. I have no need for a magnum condom but the normal ones are too small. Is there a suggested medium?

Well this morning my cold has subsided for the most part no more fever i feel almost fine except for the remnant of a soar throat. That would be a good sign against hiv, no?

Thanks much guys

This condom failure issue seems to be a repeated problem for you. You seem to be having these 'scares' every 3 months or so. Are you using a water-based lube with condoms for anal sex? Did you ask your partner's status as Dr. HHH advised you last year?

And now comes the lecture.  You are to be congratulated for your understanding of the mechanics of safe sex and your consistent use of condoms.  But that's only half the story.  All non-monogamous sexually active MSM (and many who are monogamous) should be having regular HIV tests at regular intervals; given your lifestyle, something like once every 6-12 months would be about right.  And most important, you should never, ever have sex with another man without first asking about his HIV status and discussing your own, and avoiding anal sex (or avoiding sex at all) with men who say they are positive, don't know, or are evasive about it.  It's not foolproof, but neither are condoms.  In the long run, "do ask, do tell" is just as important as consistent condom use for anal sex in protecting MSM from HIV.  Please think about it.  If the only thing that comes from your current scare is that you learn this rule, probably it will have been worth it.

Oh valuable info regarding my predicament, Claritin-D for the most part cleared up my nasal drip and the soar throat was basically cleard to. This is of course temporary because claritin is temporary, but my question is Would claritind-D be able to clear up a sore throat caused by ARS?

Not even a good excuse. You know we don't talk about symptoms on this forum and you already knew the testing guidelines.
