All negative, no results for HIV?!

Hello everyone

On thursday, I had an apt for a full std check. The dr took my urine sample and did the chlamydia and gonorrhea test at the office and then sent me out for the others.
On friday, I went to Quest, where they took blood from me.

Today, I called the dr office to see if my results were in because the anxiety has been killing me.
She told me that everything was normal (I tested for syphilis, heb b and hep c), except that the result for the hiv test were not in yet!!

How can this be? Dont they do all the tests for an individual at the same time and then send a single report to the dr? I cant help but panic that maybe the results were positive and that they are doing additional tests now.

Please help me, has anyone else had to this happen to them.

My exposure was unprotected vaginal sex roughly around a year ago.

I just called the lab where the blood gets processed and tested. The lady said that they got the bloodwork on the 20th (which is the day that they drew my blood) and that that's all she could tell me. Told me to call my doctor again

I dont understand. It is MY test results. Why cant I know MY OWN results?

In my experience working in the medical feild, quest diagnostics has been a horrible lab, at least it is around here. If I was you, at your level of anxiety I would call the lab back and ask to speak to one of the chemistry techs. And ask them, on what days and times are your HIV tests done. That way you.will know when they are ran, and will most likely find that you just missed the run. Feel free to inbox me if you need to.

by the way, thank you so much. You seriously are the only person who i have that is talking through this with me. No one else would understand my situation. Ive had no interactions with anyone because i simply cannot find the strength to talk to people.

Thank you again. It so nice to know that strangers care for other strangers

I called the lab and the lady was so rude! She told me that she can not speak to me and gave me a 1800 number. I called that number and the lady, for some reason, could not find my name in the database. She even did a nationwide search. I have no idea what is wrong with this company. So I called the lab where i tested again, and again was so rude and said they can only speak to a nurse/dr. So, i called the clinic and one of the nurses said she'd call and ask. she called me back and said that they told her the results were not in yet.

Im confused as to why my name was not found when i called the 1800 number. The lab is quest diagnostics, by the way.

When did you do the test? My advice would be to call the lab and ask them when they run the batches and find out if your test was on that batch. Im guessing you missed the run. Thus the delay.

Test is still pending!
The nurse called the lab as well and they said they dont have the results yet.

I can't help but break down right now. Have been crying for an hr straight and dont know what to do with myself. Why does it have to be friday?!

That is incorrect there are no laws that prevents a testing clinic from giving positive test results over the phone.

By law they can not give out results over the phone. Any results for that matter. But if you have proper id, you can go and obtain a copy of any lab report.

the place i went to is a free healthcare place for women. Most of the women that work there, including the doctors, are volunteers. They are always so busy, so I understand that I have to wait my turn to speak to someone.
Do you think if I went to the lab, they'd give me a copy of the results? I called them a few days ago( actually, before I called the clinic on tuesday) and they said they cannot give out results and that I had to get it from the dr. I guess its different from state to state..i live in Ca.

Thank you mommy2one. I'm still a little anxious and have been hesitant to call the office to ask again. Haven't found the courage yet. Thanks again for all the help. I'll report back when I get the results.

Rapid tests are accurate, if used post three monthd from exposure. That is what the manufacture claims, and is what it is FDA approved for.

Thank you all, it sort of makes sense now.. Last question for you all, what do you all think about the oral antibody test? I have convienced myself to think negatively about them based on info on the Internet, but what is you stand on them?

When I worked at a lab, we only ran HIV tests on Mondays and Saturdays at 10am. So if your blood got to us on Monday at 11 am, sorry, you waited until Saturdays run, which means the Dr didnt get the result until Monday, and the nurse may have gotten around to cslling that afternoon, if not the next day. HIV antibody tests are used on very high tech lab equipment and chemicals alone for the machines are VERY expensive. Thus the reason we ran them in groups. It saved money for the lab. Nursegirl is 100% correct. If it was positive, and confirmed we paged the Dr with results. You would have heard from him already. Period.

Do you think that they are going to stop the analyzer just to run your sample? No, they are going to wait till they have enough to run a batch.

Teak, but how could they run all the other tests within 2 days and have them reported but not the HIV test. The other ones were antibody tests as well. Do they usually run tests for a person separates days?!

I already explained to you, in DETAIL what could be causing the delay.  It means absolutely nothing!!

I also told you that if a pos result was discovered, you would have heard much quicker.  It's probably simply a delay, which can occur anywhere in the process.

Just check back periodically (every few days) with the office.  You are overthinking this, no news IS really good news.

Test results can take up to two weeks depending on the lab and their workload.

I get that but why are those results taking loner to be reported? I don't believe in the accuracy of the oral rapid test so I have excluded that test from my testing process.
